18 athlete teams joined the opening ceremony of HUTECH GAMES 2020

The most anticipated sporting event for the 2019-2020 academic year of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) - Student Sports Festival (HUTECH GAMES 2020) was officially launched in the morning of June 14.
The opening ceremony of HUTECH GAMES 2020 was held at HUTECH Manpower Training Center (Saigon High-tech Park)
The opening ceremony had 18 athlete teams, representing nearly 1600 students from Faculties and Institutes throughout the University, taking part in the parade. Attending the ceremony were Dr. Kieu Tuan - Secretary of HUTECH Party Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the School; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoang Viet - Vice President; leaders of units; along with numerous athletes and supporters.

In the opening remarks, Dr. Kieu Tuan encouraged the competition spirit of athletes, and emphasized the value of health - the precious asset of every human being: “Every person must have good health in order to live positively, develop themselves, build personal happiness and benefit the society. We will not be able to do anything without good physical strength and mental clarity. From the university environment, the HUTECH Student Sports Festival held annually is not only a competition, but also a motivation for you to form your health training habits. I wish you all the best in the spirit of enthusiasm and solidarity, and at the same time keep the practice routine every day for good health and good study”.

Taking place from June 14 to August 16, HUTECH GAMES 2020 consists of 7 sports with 11 competitions: Tug of war (men and women), Football (men and women), Volleyball (men and women), Basketball (men), Cheerleading, Badminton (teams), Cross-country running (men and women). The opening ceremony took place in an exciting but equally solemn atmosphere with the ceremony of welcoming the National Flag and the oath of referees and athletes.

Shortly after the opening ceremony, the Tug of war competition commenced with 26 dramatic matches. In the meantime, athletes participating in Cross-country running were to complete the distance of 3.5km (women) and 5km (men) to be eligible for a Healthy Student certificate - one of the important criteria to achieve the title of "Student of 5 merits" at all levels.
