On November 19-20, a group of lecturers and students from HUTECH Faculty of Civil Engineering took part in a field trip to two large-scale transport infrastructure works in Ho Chi Minh City including Thu Thiem 2 Bridge and the Opera House Metro Station.
The group of lecturers and students during the tour
On the tour, lecturers and students were introduced to the structure and the progress of planning and constructing a cable-stayed bridge spanning over the Saigon River and connecting District 1 and District 2. This is a project implemented in form of Build - Transfer (BT) by the contractor Freyssinet (France) employing the most advanced construction technology. Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering also had the opportunities to learn more about the experience in implementing large construction projects from engineer Vu Manh Ha, who is the Project Manager of Thu Thiem 2 Bridge and other engineers from Freyssinet Vietnam Co., Ltd.
The visit to Thu Thiem 2 Bridge on November 19
Visiting the Opera House Station of Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien), HUTECH lecturers and students acquired knowledge about modern technologies applied in underground station construction regarding subsidence monitoring techniques, top-down construction methods and the application Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). In the present, the line has entered its final stage of completion, which is the perfect time for HUTECH students to visit and gain insights into the implementation of a project and the working process of a professional construction engineer.
The visit to Ho Chi Minh City Opera House Metro Station provides future Civil Engineers with a lot of valuable experience
