Lecturers of Faculty of English Seeking Solutions for Effective English Teaching for EFL Learners


In the morning of January 15, the Faculty of English at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) successfully held the seminar on “Teaching Methods for Listening and Writing Courses, and Designing Online Activities for EFL Classrooms.” The seminar was organized with the aim to increase the teaching quality of the faculty members as well as improve the students’ academic performance.

At the seminar, the lecturers worked together to examine the current trends and difficulties, and propose solutions for EFL learners. It could be said that English is, at present, a popular language, which serves as the bridge connecting various people worldwide, and which enables them to communicate, exchange ideas, and work effectively with one another. Accordingly, EFL (English as a Foreign Language) is a general English program for people who want to consolidate their knowledge to communicate and work with foreigners. As a result, the majority of the learners fall into the age groups that exhibit more concern towards their education and careers but are without the high motivation to learn English.

The lecturers of the Faculty of English had an opportunity to exchange ideas, explore the current trends and difficulties, and proposed solutions for EFL learners
 
To solve the problems related to how to provide knowledge to the students, the lecturers proposed helpful and easily applicable solutions to equip students with the essential knowledge as quickly as possible, and such solutions are expected to improve the academic performance of the majority of the students, which include: utilizing integrated online learning with applications such as Padlet, Sakai, H5P, Quizlet, etc., using educational applications to improve grammar and vocabulary, and developing students’ reaction in speaking and listening via presentations. Through such proposals, in conjunction with the desire to explore, understand, and connect, the students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills will be gradually improved, and the learners themselves will develop their own sense of proactiveness in learning.

At the seminar, the lecturers proposed helpful and easily applicable solutions to equip students with the essential knowledge as quickly as possible.
 
From the helpful information shared at the seminar, the lecturers of the Faculty of English will accumulate more experience which can be applied into their teaching for the sake of producing better academic results for the students at HUTECH.
