A seminar on "Translation of Song"

This morning (September 24), the HUTECH Interpretation and Translation (HIT) Club from the Faculty of English of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a seminar on “The Translation of Song,” providing the students with an opportunity to conceptualize the methods with which a song can be fully translated from Vietnamese into English and vice versa.
The seminar was attended by Pham Quynh Trang, M. A. – the Vice Dean of the English Faculty, speaker Ngo Binh Anh Khoa, along with other lecturers, students, and members of the HIT club.
At the seminar, speaker Ngo Binh Anh Khoa introduced to the students the criteria, requirements, and the basic methods to translate a song. The students were also given the chance to practice translating some popular songs from Vietnamese into English, during which the speaker also gave a “demonstration” on how to place emphases on important phrases.
The criteria of an English translation of a song were introduced at the seminar.
Thoroughly translating a song is a “challenge” for translators of the English language.
From the seminar on “The Translation of Song,” translating songs not only became a recreational activity but also an interesting way for the learners to approach the field of translation, igniting the passion for translation within each student.
