HUTECH English Language Student won First Prize in International English Speech Contest

Tran Xuan Huyen Anh - a student majoring in English language, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) - has just won the first prize of the International English Speech Contest organized by Thepsatri University of Education (Thailand) held on August 19 2021.

Taking place in an online form, the contest gathered 26 contestants from 11 universities in 04 countries in the region (Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia). Representatives of HUTECH include 03 students majoring in English, namely Duong Thanh Hai, Tran Xuan Huyen Anh and Truong Thi Dieu Thu.

With the main topic "Effects on Students' Learning during COVID-19", 26 contestants will in turn draw a related random topic and have 2 minutes to prepare before presenting their talk in 5-7 minutes. In turn, the judges will ask the contestants questions and they only have 1 minute to prepare before answering.

The evaluation criteria include 15 points for the introduction (self-introduction, leads, coherence, links, closings), 50 points for the content (sticking to the topic, using language, grasping the subject matter, data, appropriate evidence, conclusions), 20 points for pronunciation, 05 points for presenting on time and 10 points for answering critical questions.

In the end, student Tran Xuan Huyen Anh with a convincing presentation and intelligent criticism won the highest score to become the Champion of the contest. The second and third prizes of the contest went to Shabryna Tsabica Adelya (Indonesia) and Muhammad Azzarul Farhan Bin Mohd Azahar (Malaysia) respectively. Not only owning a prize of 330 USD, Huyen Anh's victory is also an affirmation of the ability and bravery of HUTECH English language students in the journey to reach the region’s level.

The International Speech Contest is part of a series of international academic and cultural exchange activities (International Academic and Cultural Exchange 2021 - IACE 2021) organized by Thepsatri University of Education (Thailand) with the accompaniment of HUTECH, Mara University of Technology (Malaysia), University of Tanjungpura (Indonesia) and PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya University (Indonesia). This is also part of the MOU between HUTECH and its partners to give students the opportunity to exchange and learn, develop professional capacity and integration skills.
