Students of the Faculty of Japan Studies learn the skills to develop different translation styles

On April 23, the Faculty of Japanese Studies of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) held a workshop on "Japanese translation and interpretation skills".
 
The workshop had the attendance of Ms. Ho To Lien - Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Studies; Ms. Luu The Bao Anh - Vice Dean of Faculty of Japanese Studies; Ms. Pham My Duyen - Translator in association with Tri Viet Cultural and Creative Company (First News) and Skybooks Vietnam Culture and Communication Co., Ltd. and Ms. Tran Huy Phuong Thao - Japanese and English translator, 1PAC Vietnam Co., Ltd.

At the start of the workshop, Ms. Ho To Lien introduced the role and skills required of an interpreter. According to Ms. Lien, a good translation consists of accuracy, flexible literary style depending on the context, and the values and ideas in line with the author's intentions.

...and receive feedback on how to choose and use context-appropriate words from the guest speakers 

Ms. Pham My Duyen also said, "When receiving the manuscript, the translator needs to read the original texts in their entirety, understand the main idea, then proceed with the translation work to avoid the lack of accuracy according to the original work." In addition, she reminded students to also improve their English while studying Japanese.

Filled with useful language games, helpful tips and practical experiences from the guest translators, the workshop has helped students of HUTECH Faculty of Japanese Studies to gain a better understanding of translation principles, thereby becoming more interested in the exciting work of bridging cultures.
