English Language Students Learning about the Psychological Characteristics of Adolescents when Applied in Teaching

On April 8, the Faculty of English Language of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) held a seminar on the topic of "Adolescents’ Psychology in Foreign Language Teaching", providing useful information for students who wish to teach English in the future.
 
The workshop was attended by Dr. Le Van Tuyen – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of English Language, PhD Candidate Tran Van Duong – Director of ATC Children Therapy and Education Consulting Center, and Dinh Van Thinh, MA – Deputy Director of ATC Children Therapy and Education Consulting Center, who is also a psychologist and soft skills lecturer.

At the seminar, the speakers presented about the psychological characteristics of adolescents, such as their psychological development conditions, their communicative activities, the characteristics of their cognitive activities, the characteristics of their emotions and feelings in life, and their personality traits, all of which are important knowledge of psychology that can help HUTECH students understand and implement appropriate foreign language teaching methods suitable for middle-school and high-school students.

It is reported that the seminar attracted more than 400 students specialized in English Teaching Methodology, as well as students of Business English and Translation-Interpretation with the desire to teach in the future. They had the opportunity to learn from the speakers with years of teaching experience, thereby accumulating useful knowledge for themselves after graduating.

The modern and constantly changing rhythm of life leads to the formation of the adolescents' personality and thoughts. Understanding the psychological characteristics, as well as finding and applying appropriate teaching methods accordingly at each stage of an adolescent’s development, is very important, which creates the foundation for the knowledge of foreign language to be more effective transferred.
