On the morning of February 10th, the Faculty of English Language at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a seminar entitled ‘How to Write a Good Test’ to assist students in developing their knowledge and skills in test composition.
The workshop “How to write a good test” takes place at the Sai Gon Campus.
This workshop is part of seminar series number 02 - semester 2 for the 2019 cohort of students majoring in English Teaching Methodology. The keynote speaker at the seminar is Do Manh Cuong, a lecturer at the faculty of English language. During the workshop, he and the students discussed topics such as the significance of assessment, the characteristics of a good test, and different types of tests.
Do Manh Cuong is the keynote speaker at the seminar.
Specifically, taking a test brings benefits for both teachers and learners. For learners, a test provides an opportunity to review and remember old knowledge better, as well as identify areas of weakness for further learning. For teachers, a test helps to evaluate the course’s learning outcomes, understand the student’s level, and develop appropriate teaching methods accordingly.
He believes that a good test is valid, reliable, and able to differentiate students. Ideally, a test model can classify students into several groups based on their performance levels, such as excellent, good, average, and poor, after implementation.
The speaker shared with the students knowledge about the ideal test model.
Tests can be classified in different ways, depending on their purpose, evaluation method, and what they measure. Some common types of tests include progress tests, achievement tests, and aptitude tests. Tests can also be categorized as subjective or objective based on the evaluation method. Finally, tests can focus on testing individual skills or have an integrated approach.
There were enthusiastic questions from the students for the speaker.
The workshop has helped students gain more knowledge and skills related to creating exam questions, a stepping stone for English teaching method majors to succeed in their future careers.
The workshop equips students with many essential skills.
The faculty of English language regularly organizes specialized workshops that provide valuable knowledge for students. On February 18th, the faculty will hold a seminar on “Exploring the Field of Film Localization in Vietnam” for students majoring in Translation and Interpretation. Let’s look forward to participating in this workshop and gaining valuable insights for our future careers!
