Facing the increasing threat and severe consequences of global climate change, the dissertation titled “Research and develop smart public lighting systems using LEDs” highlights the urgent need for researching smart LED public lighting systems that are more durable and can achieve higher energy efficiency. In particular, the research examines the application of high-capacity LED drivers (i.e., 120W, 150W, 200W) in public lighting systems, designing of LoraWAN wireless data transmission and system management software.

In researching his dissertation, Mr, Ngo Thanh Tung has arrived at several recommendations and future research directions such as increasing the capacity of LED drivers by 3-4%, using the DC/DC rectifier circuit with MOSDFET instead of the commonly used diode, etc. that is suitable for 5G applications in the future. Particularly, the integration NB-IoT technology (Narrowband IoT- standards of wireless mobile technology) into smart public lighting systems to improve reliability is considered a promising solution in the development premise of future smart cities.
In their review and evaluation, members of the Dissertation Committee provide helpful feedback to improve the PhD research topic of Mr. Ngo Thanh Tung
In the review of the research, members of the Dissertation Committee raised many critical questions related to the advantages and disadvantages of LEDs, operational conditions of LED capacity parameters, data calculations, reliability and stability of the system when in use, etc. Furthermore, the Committee also pointed out several limitations and provided helpful feedback to further improve and soon apply the results of the dissertation in the development of smart LED public lighting systems.
