University integration model and global citizenship dream of language students

Zingnews.vn - Internationalization from facilities to training and teaching programs, many universities expect the generations of language students to lead the integration trend and become global citizens.

Growing up in the era of Internet boom, when people easily "shorten" the gap between countries with smartphones and social networks, Gen Z possesses many different characteristics of the previous generation. Young people born after 1996 are open-minded, tend to leave the stereotype, like to explore the identities of cultures. While Gen Y wants to step out into the world, Gen Z  is oriented to become a "global citizen"

If Gen Y wishes to step into the world, then Gen Z is oriented to become a global citizen.

The integration goal of global citizens does not stop at check-in tourism, but also towards living and working experiences in many countries. Therefore, in recent years, the language industry group has been chosen by many young people. Studying this industry, besides English, Gen Z is seriously invested in the 3rd language, fully equipped with expertise, soft skills and cultural experience. It's all an important way to conquer the global citizenship dream.

Effective language learning thanks to integrated university model

The practical outlook and the reason that drives Gen Z  make a high demand when choosing a university for the linguistic group. These young people appreciate an interactive educational environment, creative and lively curriculum, and are inclined to practice.

Having a love for the culture of the country of the rising sun, I intend to study Japanese. A characteristic of learning Japanese is that it takes a lot of practice to improve. I want to study with local teachers, participate in Vietnamese-Japanese cultural exchange activities regularly to increase opportunities to practice listening and speaking skills”, said Thuc Nghi (12th grade, HCMC) HCM).

Gen Z  emphasizes an interactive educational environment, creative and lively curriculum.

Like Thuc Nghi, Dinh Tuan (Grade 12, Can Tho) is choosing a school to study the Korean language. Dinh Tuan said that he would be very excited if he could become the captain of a Kpop club. “The college experience would be pretty dull without cultural groups”, said Tuan. “I want everyone to recognize the positive side of the Kpop fan community. Through activities promoting Korean music, members of the club will better understand Korean culture, improve their vocabulary through document research or translate lyrics. Maybe one day it is not too far away, thanks to my experience in club management that I can join a major entertainment or media company in Korea”, Dinh Tuan enthusiastically talked about his dream.

Besides, in an era where only a few clicks can open a treasure of knowledge, the traditional method of learning with blackboards, white chalk and books is difficult to attract young people with dreams of becoming global citizens. At school they need modern technology integrated curriculum, to be able to access foreign languages in a visual and practical way.

The learning habits and future orientation characteristics of Gen Z have played a part in reshaping effective higher education methods. Many universities have renewed their thinking, developed in the model of integration, received and transferred technology, training programs from world-famous training institutions.

Accordingly, schools focus on reforming curriculum based on internationalization mechanism. For the language industry, many universities strive to recruit native teachers with real abilities from many cultures. As a result, in each class, students are forced to use their target language to interact with teachers, thereby increasing their reflexes and practicing listening and speaking skills naturally.

Schools also create many healthy playgrounds such as opening clubs, extracurricular activities, international student exchange programs ... for learners to experience the cultures of other countries. Instead of being constrained by boring theory, students are relieved of pressure, inspired by discovering new things or connecting with international friends.

Next, the schools invest heavily in facilities to create a friendly learning space with language students. Students can freely organize exchanges, study at modern libraries or large campus. The difficult textbooks are also "encoded" with pictures, videos or language software.

Overseas study thanks to the new educational motto

This year, a group of students born in 2002 is about to enter the university entrance exam. This means that the standardization of higher education for the post-Millennial generation has passed the 6th year. On a long journey of efforts, many schools have gradually reached the target with an almost complete integration training model for the language industry, typically Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH).

Looking back on the achievements, HUTECH representatives expect language students to experience a learning environment similar to overseas study one. By studying at the school, students majoring in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean can explore many different countries through the form of "studying abroad".

Except for the English language which is trained in the direction of developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills because students have acquired basic knowledge from previous levels, other disciplines are well trained from elementary school. Choosing Japanese, Chinese or Korean, students will start the lesson with the alphabet and pronunciation system, and then be trained in other skills.

HUTECH University expects language students to experience the same learning environment as studying abroad one

Thanks to cooperation with major universities from the US, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan (China) ... the school owns a team of foreign teachers who have extensive teaching experience and extensive knowledge of culture. This is the reason why HUTECH students are always appreciated for their pronunciation skills and language thinking.

Along with a team of native teachers, the school's classrooms are equipped with computer systems, standard 4.0 projectors and modern learning software. Typically, students in the Korean language major can learn listening and speaking through e-learning application with experts from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). As for the English Language, students will learn about British - American culture through the Tedtalk application or improve their translation skills through SDL Trados.

The school also has a library of 1,500 square meters with 50,000 books, nearly 200 newspapers and magazines, helping foreign language students learn about cultures of many countries around the world.

Students like Dinh Tuan will definitely add plus points for HUTECH when choosing a candidate school, because this school is well-known to create conditions for students to organize and develop clubs. Students can join a series of big clubs such as HUTECH English, Japanese Asuka, language - Chinese culture, language – Korean culture.

In particular, the Chinese Language - Culture Club is best known for its regular schedule and investment activities. During the club's entertainment activities, its members can transform into historical celebrities to practice the language with their friends and learn about China's long-standing culture. Many Vietnamese-Chinese cultural exchange events are also organized regularly by this club.

In order to help foreign language students show their talents, promote the dynamism and confidence of Gen Z, the school also launched many useful competitions and playgrounds. With the English language major, students can register for contests such as Spelling Bee, Future Interpreters, Ring the Golden Bell in English ... Other industries have some contests such as Kanji conquest strategy in 30 days, Japanese speaking, and Korean speaking competitions.

"Learn with games, games to learn", students do not only practice essential language skills, but also cultivate a variety of soft skills such as communication, presentation, teamwork, creative thinking and problem solving... These are all skills that large enterprises and international companies require a potential candidate.

From the contest at school scale, many young talents of HUTECH have signed up for international competitions such as Pasona Tech scholarship - Ministry of Industry and Trade of Japan; Japanese debate - J-Dabate Academy at Singapore Job Fair 2019; Quiz on Korea 2019; Exchange scholarship at Myongji University – Korea and etc.

Having received a one-year exchange scholarship at Myongji University, Nguyen Ngoc Tram Anh - a former student of Oriental Studies (majoring in Korean studies), shared: “Thanks to the knowledge and experience passed down from the teachers of HUTECH and her experiences in Korea, I am now working as an assistant for a Korean manager in a large cosmetics company. At the same time, I still spend more time teaching Korean at night, continuing to indulge in the language and culture of this country.”

One of the important highlights of the integrated university model is the student exchange and exchange programs with many training units around the world. Every year, HUTECH language students meet and connect with friends from all five continents through a variety of international exchanges.

Many students refer to the school as a miniature world. Here, they can "travel" to many countries to experience long-standing cultural values such as origami art, flower arranging, Hahoe mask decoration, tea ceremony and so on. In addition, the school also regularly organize a week of scientific research, academic exchanges with students of famous universities such as Hosei, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific, Kobe, ... (Japanese language); South Seoul, Wonkwang, Myongji University… (Korean language); Avans - Netherlands, Pittsburgh, Lincoln - USA ... (English Language).

With the goal that graduates can quickly integrate with the international labor market, HUTECH is in the process of accelerating the completion of the integrated university model. The university is constantly making efforts to research, transfer and internationalize from facilities, equipment to training and management methods.

“We are always aiming for a new educational motto. The university is a place where students do not only study with books, but also participate in practical activities, which satisfy the requirements of international businesses. For example, in Korea and Japan, companies do not focus on degrees, they often pay attention to what students do while in school. Candidates with a profile of social activities and extracurricular participation are often appreciated”, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh - Deputy Rector of HUTECH emphasized.
