Innovative and Diverse Approaches to Teach and Learn English at the Interdisciplinary Conference

Last August 7th, the Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference held by the Faculty of English at HUTECH and Faculty of Foreign Languages at UEF occurred actively with the topic “Innovating language learning and teaching in the globalized context”.

In his opening remark, Prof. Ngô Cao Cường - Vice President of UEF, highly praised the importance of scientific research of the Faculties of the two universities, with various remarkable prosperity in the first half of this year. Although the research orientations are gradually being developed among lecturers, the UEF English Department has shown great determination with 20 of the 28 articles.

With the aim of continually improving and innovating training methods, the conference explored many perspectives in different topics, clearly showing the strengths and directions of the two universities, especially UEF, in the training of four skills in English and building a positive and proactive foreign language learning environment for students.

Four articles presented in the conference were “Creating a metacognition-enhancing learning environment: implications from recent studies in Vietnam” by Lê Xuân Quỳnh, Ph.D – UEF, “Adjectives in destination promotion texts” by Đinh Quốc Anh Thư, M.A – UEF, “The effectiveness of the reading-to-write approach in ESL/EFL writing classes” by Huỳnh Thị An, M.A – HUTECH, “Genre analysis of the reading texts: A literature review” by Nguyễn Phương Thảo, M.A and Hoàng Kim Mai Khôi, M.A – HUTECH.

After 4 sessions of presentation and discussion, the UEF - HUTECH English Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference ended successfully with the hope of creating strong innovations in the near future. These scientific events have helped UEF to look back and promote the effectiveness of teaching English at the school, affirming the position of a bilingual international university.
