To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, students from the Faculty of Finance and Commerce, Faculty of Communication and Design, and Faculty of Japanese Studies of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) participated in the Japanese Taiko drum art workshop by artist Kensaku Satou (Japan) at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music (112 Nguyen Du, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1).

Along with HUTECH students, there were some other representatives from HUTECH, including Dr. Ho To Lien - Director the Faculty of Japanese Studies, Ms. Sugiyama Kikue and Mr. Sugiyama Hiroyuki - Lecturers of the Faculty of Japanese Studies.

Artist Kensaku Satou is a master of traditional drum performance in Japan and has performed at the FIFA World Cup 1998, Olympic Tokyo 2020, and many other world-class events. During the workshop, Kensaku Satou introduced Japanese drums; the application of Taiko drums in classical music, theater, festivals, etc.; the significance and benefits of playing Taiko drums; techniques for posture, hands, feet, and rhythms while playing the drums.
Afterwards, students were well received with exposure to fantastic professional drum skills and a lesson on how to play the drums by artist Kensaku Satou.

The workshop resulted in helping students have a deeper insight into a unique aspect of Japanese culture and its artistic features. Accordingly, the students were provided with a stronger driving force to pursue their studies.
