HUTECH organized Mottainai festival 2020 with a meaningful message for the environment

In the morning of June 5, Faculty of Japanese Studies, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), organized Mottainai Festival 2020 - a Japanese-style Festival of reusable goods. The festival is a cultural exchange playground and, at the same time, a way to actively propagating the spirit of environmental and wildlife protection of Japanese Studies students in particular and HUTECH students in general.

Mottainai Festival 2020 was organized by the Faculty of Japanese Studies for the first time, inspired by the activities of buying, selling and exchanging used goods with the desire to avoid waste and protect the environment of Japanese people. At the same time, through the activities of donation and auction of used items, the Festival aimed to raise funds to support students with difficult situations. Based on that, HUTECH Japanese Studies students brought booths full of delicate and cute re-used items to protect the environment together.

The diverse, colorful stalls have recreated the summer Japanese cultural space right at HUTECH with recycled picture booths from paper calendar, recycling bags, simple traditional dishes, ceramics, etc. Bui Pham Thanh Phuong - "sales lady" of the recycled painting booth (class 17DTNB2) excitedly shared: "Our stall has pictures of famous dishes and landmarks of The Land of Cherry Blossoms made from discarded calendars. I was inspired by the desire to make use of the old calendars and my interest in the country of Japan; then together with my friends, we carefully completed each picture to sell and share them with other HUTECH students”.

Thanks to the Festival, I feel like I have learned more about Japanese culture and have gained a greater sense of initiative in recycling and using recyclables properly.”
