Overcoming many competitors from universities across Vietnam and abroad, students from the Faculty of Korean Studies at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) recently achieved outstanding results at the 2025 Southeast Asia Sungkyun Korean Essay Contest (2025년 동남아시아 성균한글백일장).


Ms. Huynh Thi Hien Doan won first prize with an emotionally engaging essay supported by persuasive arguments

Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Han earned third prize for her creative and insightful perspective
Notably, Ms. Huynh Thi Hien Doan, a 2022 cohort student majoring in Korean Language, impressed the judges with her expressive writing, sharp reasoning, and natural emotional depth. In addition, Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Han, a 2021 cohort student majoring in Oriental Studies, distinguished herself with her original ideas, cultural understanding, and distinctive writing style.

The two HUTECH representatives were highly praised for their precise use of language, logical argumentation, and authentic emotional expression, reflecting their independent thinking, creativity, and deep understanding of Korean culture and society. Their success once again affirms the academic strength and reputation of HUTECH’s Faculty of Korean Studies within the Southeast Asian community of Korean language learners.

The Southeast Asia Sungkyun Korean Essay Contest is an annual academic event initiated by Sungkyunkwan University (Korea) in 2007. It aims to provide a platform for students to demonstrate their Korean language proficiency and cultural knowledge. Over nearly two decades, the contest has become a prestigious arena attracting passionate Korean language learners from across the region.
In 2025, the contest was hosted in Vietnam in collaboration with Thuongmai University in Hanoi, gathering more than 70 outstanding contestants from Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. All participants showcased their linguistic flexibility, critical thinking, and deep appreciation for Korean culture through their well-crafted and heartfelt essays.
