On May 8, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) welcomed the Delegation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia as part of their official visit to Vietnam. The event not only opened up promising prospects for practical cooperation between HUTECH and Liberian partners but also marked a significant milestone in the university’s internationalization and global integration strategy.
Speaking at the reception, Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Vice President of HUTECH, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed the university’s desire to foster a long-term partnership in education and cultural exchange between the two countries.

On behalf of the Liberian delegation, His Excellency Dudley Thomas McKinley, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to China, expressed his sincere appreciation for HUTECH’s warm hospitality. He also conveyed strong interest in educational collaboration, human resource development, and academic exchange between Liberia and HUTECH in particular, and with Vietnam in general.

During the event, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations and Project Management, presented an overview of the university, its diverse academic offerings, modern facilities, and vibrant student exchange and cultural activities. HUTECH currently hosts students from countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, and notably, Nigeria, demonstrating its openness and readiness to welcome international students, especially those from Africa.

Representing the Liberian side, Queen Juli Endee, Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador, emphasized the vital role of culture and the arts in strengthening cross-border educational ties. She also shared about Liberia’s ongoing community initiatives, particularly in promoting gender equality, and expressed hope for collaboration with educational partners in Vietnam.

Adding to the collaborative momentum, Mr. Le Van Trung, Trade and Investment Attaché of the Liberian Government in Vietnam and Special Envoy to Southeast Asia, praised HUTECH’s strong academic reputation and training capacity. He expressed optimism about the potential for meaningful partnerships between the two sides moving forward.

Both sides discussed a range of potential collaboration areas, including scholarship programs for Liberian students, joint initiatives, student exchange, and research cooperation. To underscore its commitment to supporting international students, HUTECH awarded 10 full-tuition scholarships to Liberian students and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the delegation.

Beyond education, the two parties also explored the possibility of HUTECH participating in Liberia’s exhibition booth at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The Liberian representatives confirmed that an official invitation and supporting details would be sent to the university in the near future.
