On the morning of May 14, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shandong University of Technology (SDUT), China, opening up new opportunities for collaboration in teaching, research, and the development of high-quality human resources.

The SDUT delegation was led by Prof. Hu Xingyu, Chairman of the University Council, accompanied by Prof. Wei Fahui, Director of the President's Office; Prof. Du Qingyang, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering; Prof. Jiang Zhaohui, Dean of the Luthai School of Textiles and Fashion; and Mr. Yang Zhen, Deputy Director of Human Resources at Luthai Group. Representing HUTECH were Prof. Dr. Ho Dac Loc, President of the University, along with leaders from the Faculty of Architecture & Fine Arts, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and the Department of International Relations and Project Management.

Opening the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations and Project Management, extended a warm welcome on behalf of HUTECH to the visiting delegation. She also presented an overview of the University’s academic offerings, which span over 60 disciplines in fields such as engineering, technology, applied arts, fashion, and architecture. Special emphasis was placed on programs with strong potential for collaboration with SDUT and corporate partners like Luthai Group.

In response, the SDUT representatives introduced their university, founded in 1956 in Shandong Province, China. A public, multidisciplinary institution, SDUT currently enrolls around 40,000 students, including over 30,000 undergraduates. With a faculty of nearly 2,800, the university is recognized for its strengths in economics, engineering, materials science, chemistry, and transportation, and has been actively expanding its postgraduate programs and international student recruitment. SDUT expressed strong interest in HUTECH’s practical training model and international collaboration efforts, aligning with its own vision for global talent development.

Also present at the signing ceremony were representatives from Luthai Group, SDUT’s strategic partner in workforce training and applied research. Established in 1987 in Shandong, Luthai is a global leader in the production and export of premium shirt fabrics, holding approximately 25% of the world market share. The company partners with major fashion brands such as Burberry and Lacoste, and has been investing in Vietnam since 2015 with four large-scale factories in Tay Ninh and An Giang provinces, totaling over USD 12 million in investment and employing more than 8,000 workers.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ho Dac Loc underscored the importance of university-university-industry collaboration in enhancing training quality and increasing graduates’ competitiveness. “At HUTECH, we place great emphasis on expanding international partnerships, particularly with reputable corporations. Our educational approach is practice-oriented, aligned with industry demands, so our graduates can transition smoothly into professional environments. Alongside technical knowledge, we focus on nurturing students’ mindset, soft skills, and professional attitude. HUTECH is always ready to work closely with partners to develop high-quality study programs that meet the real needs of today’s labor market,” he emphasized.

Sharing this perspective, Prof. Hu Xingyu expressed strong interest in advancing a tripartite collaboration model between SDUT, HUTECH, and Luthai. He noted that as companies place greater emphasis on practical skills, universities must work together to develop more adaptable and industry-relevant study programs. He hoped that this partnership would serve as a foundation for future cooperation in areas such as technology transfer, student and faculty exchanges, internships, and applied research.

Building on these shared goals, HUTECH and SDUT officially signed the MoU, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at sustainable growth. The two sides also discussed and proposed a range of practical initiatives, such as forming joint research groups, launching collaborative study programs, and expanding scientific research, particularly projects eligible for national and international funding. Prof. Dr. Ho Dac Loc also introduced the HUTECH Institute of High Technology, a hub for applied projects and technology transfer, as a platform for future research collaboration between the two institutions.
