The Vietnam Legends Championship 2025, held on May 30 at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), brought together leading experts in the international golf industry. The event created an inspiring learning environment where students could explore their passions and unlock their full potential.
In her remarks at the event, Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Vice President of HUTECH, emphasized the university’s strong commitment to industry collaboration in equipping students with practical knowledge and skills to meet the increasing demands of the job market. She also expressed hope that the event would further motivate students to identify career goals and explore opportunities in the sports industry in particular and the global workforce in general.

Centered around the theme “Knowledge and Insights into the Golf Industry,” the event attracted over 300 students from the Institute of Culture - Arts - Sports, Institute of International Education, Faculty of English Language, and Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Their enthusiastic participation reflected a growing interest in modern sports among the younger generation.
In his opening talk, Mr. Ryan Howsam, Chairman of the Legends Tour, offered a comprehensive overview of the global golf industry. He highlighted that golf goes beyond professional play and includes tournament management, event organization, sports media, commerce, tourism, and training.
As the co-founder of the joint venture between the European Tour and Staysure Group, and a key figure in shaping and elevating the Legends Tour—Europe’s premier tournament for veteran golfers—Mr. Howsam has played a vital role in modernizing and globalizing the tour. His practical journey underscored the importance of innovative thinking, a forward-looking mindset, and the ability to seize global opportunities—key elements that can help students ignite their passion and pursue meaningful careers.

The program also welcomed Mr. Phil Harrison, CEO of the Legends Tour, and Mr. Gary Evans, veteran Legends golfer. They shared inspiring stories of perseverance, overcoming challenges, and continuous self-improvement. Their down-to-earth and relatable experiences helped students appreciate the value of persistence, hard work, and personal resilience in their own journeys. “We can’t achieve anything without effort and determination,” said Mr. Gary Evans.

Ms. Nguyen Gia Bao, Chairwoman of The Golf House Vietnam, provided an in-depth perspective on Vietnam’s growing golf ecosystem—a dynamic field offering numerous promising career paths for young people. However, she noted that sustainable growth in this industry requires early, structured guidance starting at the university level. She also proposed proactive initiatives such as forming student golf clubs, hosting seminars and workshops, and building a solid foundation to help students enter and thrive in the field.

Beyond sparking inspiration, the experts also encouraged students to actively build networks and seek real-world experience—particularly through international events like the Vietnam Legends Championship 2025. HUTECH met with partners to explore strategic directions
Also on the same day, Dr. Kieu Xuan Hung, Chairman of the University Board of Directors and HUTECH representatives, held a working session with representatives of the Legends Tour and The Golf House Vietnam. The discussion focused on strategic directions and cooperation opportunities to gradually integrate golf into the Sports Management curriculum in response to labor market needs. Collaborating with reputable international partners not only enhances training quality and gives students access to professional sports environments but also plays a crucial role in building a highly qualified workforce for the sports and golf industries in Vietnam.
