Nearly four months of living and studying in Poland brought about profound changes in the mindset, perspectives, and teaching approaches of Mr. Vu Anh Chien and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhut, lecturers from the Faculty of Business Administration at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH). Both participated in the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme KA171 for faculty exchange at WSB Merito University in Gdańsk, from March 12 to June 29.
At WSB Merito University, one of the largest and most reputable private university systems in Poland, the two HUTECH lecturers were introduced to modern, learner-centered teaching methods that emphasize critical thinking, independent work, and public speaking. Mr. Vu Anh Chien shared that what impressed him the most was the open academic atmosphere in the classroom: “Students give presentations daily, actively share ideas, and engage in debates. Every opinion is heard and respected.” In addition to academic content, events such as the Job Fair, sustainability seminars, and regular international exchanges at the university allowed the two lecturers to broaden their perspectives and engage with contemporary issues in education and career development.

One striking difference in WSB Merito University's approach was the minimalist use of theory and the strong emphasis on practical application. Familiar subjects like Financial Management were taught with fewer formulas and more real-life case studies, making it easier for students to retain knowledge and apply it effectively. This approach served as a major source of inspiration for the two HUTECH lecturers as they plan to innovate their teaching methods upon returning to Vietnam.
The learning journey enhanced the lecturers' global skills and contributed to HUTECH’s international presence
Beyond academics, their time in Poland offered a rich cultural experience. During their first days in Gdańsk, the lecturers had the rare opportunity to witness snowfall. They described life in Poland as “comfortable, affordable, and convenient,” particularly praising the public transportation system. Their visits to coastal cities such as Gdynia and Sopot, the capital city of Warsaw, and the Hel Peninsula, where they even saw submarines floating on the water, left a lasting impression and deepened their understanding of Poland’s history, people, and rapid development.

Throughout the journey, interacting with faculty and students from various countries also helped strengthen their intercultural communication skills and adaptability in a global environment. This, in turn, laid the foundation for both to confidently serve as “academic ambassadors,” helping promote HUTECH’s image internationally.
Engaging with international peers gave the lecturers deeper insight into diverse cultures
At a post-trip sharing session, Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Vice President of HUTECH, affirmed: “This was a valuable opportunity for our lecturers to step outside their comfort zone, grow personally and professionally, and learn from international education models. These experiences not only hold individual value but also reflect HUTECH’s long-term strategy to develop a high-quality academic team capable of thriving in a globalized environment.” From a programme coordination perspective, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations and Project Management, emphasized the essential role of Erasmus+ in enhancing faculty capacity, expanding academic partnerships, and gradually positioning HUTECH as a strong participant in global education.
HUTECH lecturers are now ready to inspire students with their knowledge and global perspective
Upon returning from the programme, both lecturers noted significant growth, not only in their professional knowledge but also in their mindset and working style. Mr. Vu Anh Chien shared: “I feel I’ve grown a lot. I’ve learned effective teaching methods and found creative ways to inspire students. I hope my international experiences will help bring the best possible learning journey to future generations.” Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhut added: “I’ve become more confident, overcome initial challenges, and am ready to spread the spirit of global integration to HUTECH students. Experiencing cross-border education for the first time was truly rewarding.”
