HUTECH holds opening ceremony for AUN-QA assessment of four Master’s degree programmes

This morning (August 12), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) officially held the opening ceremony for the 463rd AUN-QA Programme-Level Assessment of four Master's degree programmes: Economic Law, Civil Engineering, English Language, and Tourism and Travel Service Management.

This is an important activity in HUTECH's roadmap for teaching quality improvement and assurance, aiming for regional and international standards. Accordingly, the assessment process will take place at HUTECH over three days, from August 12 to 14, 2025.
The assessment team attending the opening ceremony included Prof. Dr. Wyona C. Patalinghug - Team Leader, Head of the Economic Law Master's Programme assessment team; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanasin Chutintaranond - Member; Prof. Dr. Hanna H. Bachtiar-Iskandar - Head of the English Language Master's Programme assessment team; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumet Umchid - Member; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakorn Watanachaturaporn - Head of the Civil Engineering Master's Programme assessment team; Prof. Dr. Ma. Rosel S. San Pascual - Member; Prof. Dr. Satria Bijaksana - Head of the Tourism and Travel Service Management Master's Programme assessment team; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ritchie Mae Gamot - Member; and Ms. Supanan Suanploo - AUN-QA Assessment Coordinator, Secretariat.

Representing HUTECH to welcome the assessment team were Dr. Kieu Tuan - Secretary of the Party Committee, Permanent Member of the University Board of Directors, along with members of the Board of Presidents, leaders, lecturers, and staff.

At the start of the ceremony, the AUN-QA team was introduced to an overview of HUTECH, including facilities, modern learning environment, utilities, study programmes, assessed programmes, academic-cultural-artistic-sports activities, and the enterprise semester for students, through a presentation video. This gave the team an initial impression of a dynamic university that always prioritizes providing the best quality for learners.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Ly Thien Trang - Vice President of the University, expressed her gratitude and warm welcome to the AUN-QA assessment team for taking the time to assess the quality of the university's four Master's degree programmes.

She stated that throughout its formation and development, HUTECH has remained steadfast in its mission to ensure and continuously improve education quality, using international standards as the benchmark for all teaching, research, and community service activities. Quality Assessment is not only an assessment process but also a valuable opportunity for HUTECH to review, analyze, and improve all aspects of its operations. She hoped that with their credibility, experience, and expertise, the AUN-QA assessment team would provide precise suggestions and valuable recommendations to help the university further enhance its quality in the future.
On behalf of the assessment team, Prof. Dr. Satria Bijaksana expressed his sincere thanks to HUTECH for the thoughtful reception and positive cooperation. He hoped that with close coordination and support from the university, this assessment would achieve practical results and offer valuable recommendations to improve the programmes and the quality assurance system at HUTECH.

Based on AUN-QA assessment criteria such as programme structure and content, the extent to which learning outcomes are met, facilities and equipment for teaching and learning, faculty quality, and stakeholder satisfaction, immediately after the opening ceremony, the assessment team began on-site activities.
On the first working day, the team visited the training facilities and laboratories of the four programmes, worked with faculty leaders, departments, and the self-assessment report (SAR) writing teams, and had direct discussions with lecturers, students, alumni, and enterprise representatives.

These activities aim to gather multi-dimensional evidence, analyze the current situation, and evaluate the extent to which each criterion is met, thereby providing the most accurate assessments and recommendations for the four Master's degree programmes at the university.
The assessment process is expected to deliver positive results, contributing to improving the quality of HUTECH's academic programmes
The assessment results will be reported at the closing session on August 14 at the Dien Bien Phu Campus (Saigon Campus).
