On June 26th, the Isshou Japanese Club of the Vietnam - Japan Institute of Technology (VJIT) - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) hosted the final round of the 2024 "Super Kanji" contest season 5 at the Saigon Campus. At the end of the event, this year's talented Champion was officially announced.
Mr. Nakayama Shozo and Ms. Oishi Yuko, VJIT Lecturers, were the judges during the contest. The special guests at the contest included Dr. Ha Minh Tuan - Vice Director of VJIT, Dr. Ly Nhu Quynh – lecturer of VJIT, and Dr. Vo Van Thanh Than - Dean of the Faculty of Linguistics & International Cultures, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF).

At the contest, Dr. Ha Minh Tuan expressed his appreciation towards the Isshou Club for accompanying VJIT in creating a playground for HUTECH students and other universities in Ho Chi Minh City. He expected the contest would become an annual event. Dr. Ha also sent his best wishes to the contestants, encouraging them to successfully accomplish the test and earn worthy prizes.

After exciting preliminary and semi-final rounds, the top eight contestants faced off in the final round. They had to showcase their Japanese proficiency though three challenges: Quick Hands and Eyes, Mental Challenge, and Golden Microphone.
In the "Quick hands and eyes" challenge, contestants draw Hiragana questions, locate the Kanji answer on the backdrop, and memorize the coordinates to navigate the maze and discover the answer. The "Mental Challenge" consists of ten steps. Contestants take turns answering questions to move up the next steps. The person standing on the highest step proceeds to the final round.

In the "Golden Microphone" challenge, the top five finalists select their favorite Kanji word and present it to the judges in Japanese.

After hours of competition, the top 5 contestants were revealed. Accordingly, the first prize of "Super Kanji" season 5 went to Huynh Thi Ngoc Tram, the second prize went to Ho Thi Chau Thuan, the third prize went to Le Van Cua and the consolation prize went to Tran Khanh Ngan and Thuy Diem Trang.

The "Super Kanji" contest season 5 was an opportunity for students not only to demonstrate their Japanese proficiency but also to learn and improve their own knowledge through diverse challenges. Moreover, the competition also contributes to building a dynamic Japanese learning community.
