Several research topics with practical applications in current English teaching and learning activities were presented by graduate students of English Language at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) in the Master's thesis defense session held on the morning of April 22.
The evaluation board includes lecturers and researchers from many prestigious universities such as Dr. Nguyen Thi Kieu Thu - Head of HUTECH’s Faculty of Englíh Language; Dr. Le Van Tuyen - Deputy Head of the Faculty; Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tran Chau - Lecturer of the Faculty; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu - Lecturer of People's Police University; Dr. Tran Vu Diem Thuy - Lecturer of Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology; Dr. Lam Thanh Nam - Lecturer of Ho Chi Minh City Banking University.

At the defense session, 04 students presented their thesis topics focusing on methods, tools and English teaching content suitable for each group of learners. Some of the topics that stood out were: a study on the application of real-life video conversations in improving English listening skills for intermediate level learners; a solution for teaching vocabulary through games in English as a foreign language (EFL) classes; a study on evaluating the textbook series "English 3 Extra and Friends" currently used in primary schools in Long Dien district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; digital storytelling method in developing English speaking skills, focusing on learners' perceptions.

Through the presentation of the thesis report, the students showed serious investment from the stage of choosing the topic to the research implementation process. Each topic was built on a clear theoretical basis, using appropriate research methods and aiming at practical issues in the field of English teaching today. The thesis evaluation board made profound comments, carefully evaluating the logic in the research structure, the reliability of the data, the way of processing the results as well as the ability to apply in practice.
The Board gave comments to help students complete and develop their theses.
Not only did the students present their research, they also demonstrated confidence in academic communication, the ability to analyze and respond flexibly to questions from the panel. The theses were highly appreciated for their creative approach and potential to develop into in-depth research or useful reference materials for lecturers and students in the field.

The defense was not only an opportunity for students to demonstrate their research capacity and professional qualifications, but also created an open academic forum where lecturers and researchers could share experiences and discuss new trends in foreign language teaching, thereby, contributing to promoting highly applicable research directions, effectively serving the teaching of English at HUTECH in particular and Vietnam in general.
