HUTECH equips graduate students and doctoral candidates with information resource utilization skills

To equip learners with effective skills in sourcing reference materials for their academic and research activities, on January 10, the Institute of Postgraduate Studies at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a Workshop on Accessing Information Resources and Scientific Citation in Research Projects, specifically for master's students and doctoral candidates.

The workshop was led by Mr. Hoang Ngoc Tuan – Director of HUTECH Library, who served as the keynote speaker. The event also welcomed the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Cao Cuong – Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thai Van Nam – Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies; Dr. Le Ngo Ngoc Thu – Vice Director; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quyet Thang – Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Tung – Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Commerce; Dr. Tran Thi Trang – Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; along with faculty members from the Institute and over 150 graduate students and doctoral candidates.

To help participants develop effective information retrieval skills, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Tuan introduced the wide range of resources available at HUTECH Library and shared his personal experience in searching and selecting academic information. He also provided detailed guidance on proper scientific citation methods, aligned with current academic standards.

According to Mr. Tuan, learners need to clearly define their research scope and selectively search for relevant information, categorize resources from primary to secondary, narrow down topics using structured approaches, and apply certain search algorithms and tools for organizing and storing materials effectively (including the use of Zotero reference management software).

With the valuable information shared during the workshop, HUTECH’s master's and doctoral students are now better equipped to update their skills in reference material search, academic information resource utilization, and proper citation techniques, all of which will significantly support their studies and research projects in the coming time.
