On the morning of July 22, 2025, the HUTECH Graduate School hosted the thesis defense session for four master's students of the English Language program, evaluated by an academic review panel.
Defending Master’s Theses, HUTECH English Language Graduate Students Affirm Their Research Efforts and Achievements
This defense event provided the students an opportunity to demonstrate their research outcomes achieved throughout their graduate studies, reflecting efforts toward improving practical applications in English teaching, learning, and usage within professional and educational contexts.

All research topics presented focused on specific and highly applicable areas in teaching and using English within specialized and educational settings:
The effect of type of written exercises on students’ English vocabulary retention: A study at a primary school – This investigated how different writing exercises affect primary students' vocabulary retention, providing practical teaching recommendations.
Linguistic problems in writing English business complaint letters: A study at a company – This analyzed common language difficulties in business complaint letters and proposed effective improvements.
The use of peer correction in English writing lessons: A study at a foreign language center – This research demonstrated the positive impact of peer correction on writing skills and learner engagement.
EFL learners’ perception of utilizing social media to support English vocabulary development: A study at an English center – This examined learners’ attitudes towards using social media to enhance vocabulary, suggesting ways to integrate technology into teaching effectively.
The defended topics are highly applicable, contributing to innovations in English teaching and learning within real-world contexts.
The academic panel provided expert feedback, emphasizing coherence, solid theoretical foundations, and clear research design in each thesis topic.
The review panel offered professional feedback, highlighting the importance of coherent structure, theoretical underpinning, accurate referencing, and clarity in research design and sampling methods—feedback that will help students refine their theses and boost the quality and practical impact of future research.
The thesis defense session served as an opportunity for students to engage in academic discussions, receive constructive feedback, and shape future research directions.
In summary, the defense session not only allowed these graduate students to present and discuss their findings with experienced faculty but also strengthened their capacity to conduct meaningful research, laying a solid foundation for further contributions to advanced English education and practical applications in real-world contexts.
