Guided by Dr. Patil Priyanka Sunil, Director of the Institute of Pharmacy and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Sigma University (India), the workshop titled “Hands-on Training: Advanced Analytical Instrumentation” was jointly organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) and its Department of International Relations and Project Management on July 31. The event opened new opportunities for students to access modern HPLC analytical technology.
At the workshop, Dr. Patil Priyanka Sunil focused on introducing and delving into High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), one of the most widely used and essential analytical techniques in pharmaceuticals and life sciences. She clearly explained the principles behind HPLC, the structure of the equipment, and how the system operates, covering components from the pump and sample injector to the chromatography column and detector. This content not only provided students with fundamental knowledge but also highlighted the critical role of HPLC in drug quality testing and pharmaceutical formulation development.
Dr. Patil Priyanka Sunil introduces and explores the HPLC method while addressing student questions
Following that, the speaker elaborated on key factors that influence chromatographic performance, such as the composition and pH of the mobile phase, type of chromatography column, flow rate, column temperature, and type of detector. She also emphasized the importance of optimizing analysis conditions to achieve the best resolution, shorten analysis time, and improve result accuracy. Through practical examples from pharmaceutical research and production, she helped participants understand how to select and adjust parameters to match specific analytical objectives, such as determining active ingredient content, assessing impurities, or studying metabolic products.

Dr. Patil Priyanka Sunil also toured the Faculty’s laboratory facilities
The discussion session offered students the chance to ask questions and work with the expert to clarify issues related to HPLC in pharmaceutical research and quality control. Many questions focused on choosing the right chromatography column, optimizing analytical conditions, and troubleshooting common issues during HPLC operation. Dr. Patil Priyanka Sunil provided detailed explanations, and the open, engaging atmosphere helped students reinforce theoretical knowledge and better understand how to apply HPLC in practical settings.
The workshop supports career readiness for HUTECH Pharmacy students
Concluding the session, Dr. Patil Priyanka Sunil emphasized the vital role of HPLC throughout the entire pharmaceutical testing and production process, from research and formulation development to final product quality control. With its strong practical insights and clear application focus, the workshop offered Pharmacy students valuable exposure to modern research methods, helping them build a solid foundation for future careers in the pharmaceutical industry.
