Recently, five students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Technology (VKIT), and the Institute of Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) participated in the “Future Architect” China-ASEAN Summer Camp in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province (China).
The program was organized by Guizhou Polytechnic of Construction in collaboration with Go Study Global Education, under the coordination of SEAMEO TED - the Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Technical Education Development. The event brought together 21 students representing ASEAN countries including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Brunei, the Philippines, Laos, and more, to exchange knowledge and explore Chinese architecture and culture.
The international summer camp offered students opportunities for learning and intercultural exchange
Within the program framework, HUTECH students actively took part in various professional activities, field trips, and cross-cultural interactions. In addition to specialized seminars and international conferences, the delegation visited museums, construction companies, vocational training institutions, and green construction technology centers. Notable destinations included the Guiyang Architecture Museum, Qingyan Ancient Town, iconic landmarks in Guiyang City, sustainable construction material research centers, local vocational schools, and construction companies applying advanced technologies. These activities provided a comprehensive view of the development orientation of the architecture and construction sector in the context of regional integration.
Students also experienced Chinese culture through hands-on craft classes, local heritage exploration, and green construction field trips. They participated in bamboo craft workshops, explored intangible cultural heritage and local life, and engaged with traditional architectural styles and modern green building technologies through site visits to vocational institutions, construction enterprises, and specialized museums.
HUTECH students engage with international peers, exploring culture and building a global integration mindset
A highlight of the program was the International Youth Roundtable Meeting, where international student representatives discussed key topics such as sustainable development, cultural heritage preservation, and the role of youth in shaping the future of architecture. This activity also helped students enhance their skills in critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, and English communication in an academic international setting.
International student representatives engaged in discussions on current global issues
At the closing ceremony, held as part of the 2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, Cao Ngoc Thach, a Civil Engineering student representing HUTECH, delivered a remarkable speech that showcased the confidence and global mindset of Vietnamese students. His speech not only shared memorable experiences from the camp but also conveyed a message of ambition, creativity, and a willingness to contribute to sustainable architectural development in the future. In addition, the HUTECH team won Third Prize in the International Youth Talk Award, recognizing their outstanding learning spirit, active participation, and exceptional English presentation skills on the international stage.
Students gain professional knowledge while fostering innovation and adaptability
Through the program, HUTECH students not only strengthened their academic knowledge and developed a global mindset but also had the chance to build cross-cultural relationships with students from across the region. This experience provides a strong foundation for young people to confidently integrate and thrive in their future academic and professional journeys.
