Fashion Design students win 3 awards at the 13th Hanyoung Textile Design Competition

At the 13th Hanyoung Textile Design Competition organized by the HanYoung Scholarship Foundation, three Fashion Design students from the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), won 1 Bronze Prize and 2 Commendation Awards. This achievement recognizes their dedicated research process and their ability to meet international standards.

With her work Crimson Reverie: The Solitary Blooms of Adolescence, student Tran Bao Quynh Anh was awarded the Bronze Prize. Her design stood out for exploring the theme of youthful memories through a well-structured pattern language. By creating a “garden of emotions” as a space to preserve memories, she used rhythmic forms and deep red tones to add visual depth. The controlled, uncluttered composition effectively conveyed personal emotions into a system of patterns with potential applications in fashion and surface decoration.
The work Dancheong by student Truong Gia Lac approached the theme through the intersection of tradition and modernity. Inspired by Dancheong, a traditional Korean decorative art on wooden architecture, Gia Lac distilled characteristic lines and pattern modules, then reorganized them into a contemporary geometric composition. The structural consistency allowed the work to both evoke East Asian cultural identity and meet practical application criteria, earning a Commendation Award.

With Mind Garden, student Nguyen Thuy Vy chose a minimalistic expression, focusing on a sense of relaxation and rhythmic surface flow. Metaphorical images such as cosmos flowers, lavender, and vines were stylized into deliberate repeating motifs. A neutral palette, layered with subtle grays in the background, created depth while keeping the dense patterning from appearing cluttered. The disciplined arrangement and scalability into a full collection helped the work earn a Commendation Award.

In line with the training approach of the Fashion Design major in particular and over 60 disciplines at HUTECH in general, students are comprehensively equipped with both specialized knowledge and practical skills to handle real-world projects. Participation in professional competitions such as the Hanyoung Textile Design Competition provides opportunities for students to test their abilities, stay updated with trends, and build their career portfolios.

Organized by the HanYoung Scholarship Foundation, the Hanyoung Textile Design Competition attracts more than 1,000 entries from multiple countries, with award categories including Grand, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Commendation, with a total prize value exceeding VND 1 billion. The textile and fashion pattern designs submitted are required to demonstrate professionalism, uniqueness, and commercialization potential, while encouraging participants to transform personal inspiration into practical aesthetic solutions.
