The academic exchange with Niigata Institute of Technology (NIIT) provided students from the Vietnam-Japan Institute of Technology (VJIT) at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) with exposure to advanced approaches in technology education.
At the opening session, Mr. Takehiro Miura, Director of Academic Affairs, delivered an overview of NIIT, an application-oriented university with strong academic offerings in engineering fields such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, materials science, and related technologies. His presentation highlighted an educational model that integrates foundational knowledge, scientific research, and practical manufacturing experience, along with a well-structured system of academic support and career guidance. These insights helped students gain a clear understanding of the modern learning environment in Japan.

With the theme “Application of Impact Mechanics to Biomechanics,” Dr. Yuuji Tanabe, President of NIIT, offered an in-depth perspective on the application of impact mechanics in the field of biomechanics. His presentation focused on the response of the patellar tendon tibial complex, a structure that plays a crucial role in knee joint and lower limb movement. Through analyses of impact forces in everyday activities such as walking, running, jumping, and landing, students developed a clearer understanding of injury mechanisms while also recognizing potential applications in biomedical engineering, orthopedics, and rehabilitation.

Expanding the discussion into the industrial domain, Prof. Masakazu Okazaki, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, continued with the topic “Ni Base Superalloys and Coatings for Advanced Gas Turbines.” His presentation examined the properties of heat resistant nickel-based superalloys and thermal barrier coatings, materials that play a decisive role in the performance and durability of systems operating under extreme conditions. His detailed analysis helped students better understand the importance of materials in engineering design, while also underscoring the practical value of the academic exchange in enhancing training quality and the overall learning experience at HUTECH.
