Food Technology students gain hands-on experience while learning about the production line at Yakult factory

To enhance practical knowledge and allow students hands-on experience on actual production processes as well as modern plant and facility equipment, regular factory tours for students are organized by the Institute of Applied Sciences of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH).

On October 4 and October 11, 2018, students of the 2015 cohort in the Food Technology program had the opportunity to visit Yakult Factory in Binh Duong province. Through this trip, students have learned about the establishment process and growth of the worldwide network of Yakult factories.

On the factory tour, students were introduced to the production technology, closed-loop manufacturing processes, and modern open system by the representative of Yakult Vietnam. At each production stage, the actual process was explained in detail through a monitor screen which helped students gain a better understanding of the overall plant production. At the same time, to provide students the chance to learn more about micro-organisms, a microscope was made available to take a closer look at the shapes and distinguish between beneficial and harmful bacteria to the human digestive system.

At the end of the Yakult factory tour, questions about the production, packaging, storage, and distribution process raised by students were answered thoroughly by the factory representative. The field trip has provided several benefits to students by synthesizing and enhancing the knowledge that students have learned from the classrooms while supplementing practical experience to their studies. Besides, students have gained a deeper understanding of technology application, production automation systems, working styles, and the opportunity to subject-specific theoretical knowledge to a real-life production scenario.
