Departure ceremony of the HUTECH 2023 Green Summer campaign: Brilliant blue shirts, fiery spirits as they go

More than 800 volunteer soldiers participating in the Green Summer 2023 campaign of the University of Technology of Ho Chi Minh City (HUTECH) were ready to go with an enthusiastic spirit.  “Wherever there is a need, youth are there; where there are obstacles, youth assist".

On the morning of July 6th, the yard of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) was impressively blue in the opening ceremony of the Green Summer Volunteer campaign 2023. The program was organized by the Youth Union - Student Union of the University. as a part of the 30th Anniversary of summer volunteer programs and campaigns of Ho Chi Minh City youth (1994 - 2023).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Kieu Tuan - Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Committee of the School Council communicate high expectations to the soldiers during this year's volunteering summer saying: “Green Summer is an opportunity for students to learn, gain experience, challenge, and upgrade the soul and mind, filling thoughts and emotions with love and meaning for life. Hopefully, after the trip, you will have become more  mature and perfect, leaving a good impression of HUTECH's youth for people in the localities you have passed through."

This year HUTECH Green Summer Soldiers will have 30 days (from July 6 to August 5) to "eat together, live together, work together" with people at 03 fronts including the Ho Chi Minh City front in Thu Duc City, Binh Thanh and Nha Be districts, the Dong Thap province front in 02 communes Tan My and Tan Thanh, and the Vinh Long provincial front in Tan Hung commune, Binh Tan district.

Much meaningful work has been organized for this year's campaign. At the end of the ceremony welcoming the volunteers, the 3 spearheads of soldiers quickly moved to the military locations, bringing knowledge and youth to build their homeland through practical tasks such as visiting and taking care of the family, especially the heroic Vietnamese mother; carrying out mass mobilization, advising and supporting people to install electronic health books and VNeID; raising funds for the promotion of study and giving school supplies to children; participating in cultural and artistic exchanges; and repairing and installing electronic equipment and radio systems for people and localities.

In addition, the campaign is also contributing to key projects such as establishing friendship houses and houses of love; bridge construction; the improvement of rural roads; planting trees and flowers; electrifying country roads; donating computers to Youth Union members and youth in need; and doing artwork for the decoration of primary schools and kindergartens in the various localities.

Nguyen Pham Cat Tuong, a 3rd-year Veterinary Medicine student - one of this year's volunteer soldiers, expressed her excitement and pride in being able to take part in this meaningful campaign: "As a child born and raised in Saigon, living in a place full of goods and in a home with my parents, this is an opportunity for me to choose to leave that protection, to study and to make a practical contribution to society. Today when I stand here, I am proud that I  will be spending meaningful days and making unforgettable memories in the midst of my student life.”

The organizers are confident that with a long tradition of volunteering, employing the energy of youth and practical and meaningful labor, HUTECH's Green Summer 2023 campaign will continue to contribute to a summer full of love and the multiplication of achievements and valuable spiritual values which mark the harmony of the army and the volunteers, with the local people.
