HUTECH Sustainable Development Committee
“Driving Change for Sustainable Development”

I. Introduction
As higher education around the world increasingly embraces sustainable development, the HUTECH Sustainable Development Committee serves as the University's strategic coordinating body, leading and overseeing the comprehensive integration of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across all aspects of the University's ecosystem.
The Committee plays a central role in advancing HUTECH's transformation into a sustainable university by ensuring that sustainability principles are systematically embedded in governance, teaching and learning, research, campus operations, and community engagement. Through these efforts, HUTECH continues to enhance the quality of education, strengthen its social responsibility, and reinforce its position as a university committed to addressing sustainable development challenges at both the national and global levels.
II. Strategic Pillars of the HUTECH Sustainable Development Committee
1. Strategic leadership and policy development

Develop and advise on institutional strategies that integrate the SDGs into the University's overall development agenda.

Recommend, establish, and oversee policies, regulations, and institutional frameworks that promote sustainable development across the University.

Embed sustainability principles into governance, quality assurance systems, and institutional decision-making processes.
2. Integrating sustainable development into teaching and learning

Incorporate SDG-related content into academic curricula, learning outcomes, and interdisciplinary teaching approaches.

Design academic programs aligned with UNESCO's Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) framework to equip students with systems thinking, responsible decision-making, and the ability to develop innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.

Expand experiential learning opportunities, including project-based learning and service learning, that address real-world sustainability issues.

Strengthen faculty capacity to integrate sustainability concepts into teaching and curriculum design.
3. Advancing research and innovation for sustainable development

Encourage and support interdisciplinary research and innovation projects that address economic, social, and environmental challenges.

Develop interdisciplinary research groups and research centers aligned with the SDGs.

Promote high-quality scholarly publications, knowledge transfer, and innovation that contribute to sustainable development.
4. Developing a green and smart campus

Implement initiatives that improve the efficient use of energy, water, and other resources while reducing carbon emissions.

Create a green, safe, inclusive, and healthy learning and working environment.

Leverage digital technologies and smart solutions to enhance sustainable campus management and operations.
5. Community engagement and social impact

Organize community service activities, volunteer programs, and local development projects that contribute to the SDGs.

Promote service learning and strengthen HUTECH's role as a socially engaged university.

Expand partnerships with industry, government agencies, and community organizations to implement sustainable development initiatives.
6. Sustainability data management, measurement, and reporting

Develop and maintain an institution-wide sustainability data management system.

Collect, analyze, and standardize sustainability data to support institutional management, evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making.

Prepare sustainability reports in accordance with internationally recognized frameworks, including the QS Sustainability Rankings, THE Impact Rankings, and UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
7. Fostering a culture of sustainability
- Enhance sustainability awareness, knowledge, and competencies among faculty members, staff, and students.
- Develop communication campaigns, engagement programs, and experiential activities that cultivate a culture of sustainability throughout the University.
- Encourage students to become active co-creators and leaders of SDG-related initiatives.
8. Monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitoring mechanisms to evaluate sustainability performance across the University.

Conduct regular reviews to assess implementation progress, identify gaps, and recommend continuous improvement measures.

Apply the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) cycle to ensure effectiveness, transparency, accountability, and the long-term success of HUTECH's sustainability initiatives.
