On January 9, students from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) brought the vibrant and heartwarming atmosphere of Lunar New Year to life through the event “Tet Nguyen Phong,” which highlighted the rich essence of Vietnamese cultural traditions.

The festive and warm atmosphere of Tet Holiday was beautifully recreated at the “Tet Nguyen Phong” event
The event was not only the final project for students in the Event Management course but also a meaningful opportunity for them to immerse themselves in the spirit of Tet Holiday, celebrate cultural values, enjoy traditional holiday foods, and exchange heartfelt New Year wishes full of hope and good fortune.
At the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Vice President of HUTECH, emphasized that beyond its academic purpose, the event delivered profound humanistic values. He highlighted the importance of learning through real-life projects designed by students themselves, which allow them to both master theoretical knowledge and develop organizational and personal skills. These experiences, he noted, serve as invaluable preparation for their future careers.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien appreciated the event’s meaningful cultural and educational value
Set in a colorful and cozy Tet-themed space, the audience was treated to a fashion show featuring the ao dai collection “Spring Colors of Three Regions” by designer Nguyen Viet Hung. Blending tradition with modernity, the collection celebrated the distinctive beauty of Vietnam’s North, Central, and South through the national costume. All the designs were modeled by students, delivering both visual delight and a message of unity and the vibrant beauty of spring across the country.

Another highlight of the event was the variety of engaging activities and booths that showcased
the rich cultural identity of Vietnamese Tet Holiday
Khuu Doan Cao Dat, a fourth-year student in Restaurant and Catering Management and head of the organizing team, shared: "Tet Nguyen Phong was planned from the very beginning of our course and took nearly two months to prepare. With 80 members involved, many creative and original ideas were proposed and brought to life. However, striking a balance between innovation and preserving traditional values was a major challenge for the organizing team and the three participating classes. The event was also our way of expressing deep affection for the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, as well as our wish to honor and preserve its cultural heritage, which remains a vital part of Vietnamese spiritual life.”
These experiences become valuable preparation for future professional challenges
Through this event, students not only mastered the process of organizing a large-scale event but also developed key skills such as teamwork, creativity, project management, and the ability to apply theory to practice. It also helped them enhance their problem-solving, communication, and time management abilities. These hands-on experiences will serve as a valuable foundation, empowering students to confidently take on future challenges in professional environments.
