Internationalization Highlights at HUTECH from March to May 2026: Connecting Cultures, Academia, and the Global Community

From March to May 2026, HUTECH organized a series of international exchange, collaboration, and engagement activities, creating a vibrant picture of global integration across multiple dimensions. From cultural exchange programs and cross-border experiential learning initiatives to virtual engagement with international students, professional exchange activities, and the welcoming of international learners, each initiative contributed to expanding development opportunities for students, faculty members, and staff.

Together, these activities have helped create a modern and dynamic learning environment while further strengthening HUTECH's growing presence within the global education and academic landscape.

Bringing the World Closer to HUTECH Students

One of the highlights of HUTECH's internationalization strategy is its commitment to building a multicultural learning environment on campus. Rather than focusing solely on outbound opportunities, the University also strives to bring international experiences directly to students through a variety of exchange and engagement activities.

On March 6, students from the Faculty of Japanese Studies had the opportunity to interact and learn alongside students from Hosei University, Japan. Through academic discussions, cultural exploration, and the sharing of learning experiences, students from both institutions gained insights into the similarities and differences between their educational environments. The activity helped strengthen intercultural understanding while inspiring students to further develop their language skills and broaden their global perspectives.

Through cultural exchanges, interactive activities, and discussions about academic experiences, participants gained fresh perspectives on life, education, and culture around the world. The program also provided valuable opportunities for students to strengthen their communication skills, adaptability, and ability to work in multicultural settings.

The spirit of international engagement continued to flourish during the Academic Exchange and Cultural Immersion Program: HUTECH - Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), held from May 11 to May 18 with the participation of students and faculty members from SLSU in the Philippines.

Throughout the week, students from both institutions took part in academic activities, cultural exchanges, experiential learning opportunities, and programs that introduced them to student life in Vietnam. These experiences not only broadened their understanding of different cultures but also provided valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, intercultural communication skills, and international networks.

Through a diverse range of exchange initiatives, HUTECH is steadily building a vibrant international learning community where students can learn from different perspectives, develop a global mindset, and prepare themselves for future careers in an increasingly interconnected world.

Connecting Learning with Social Responsibility and International Experiential Education

In addition to cultural exchange activities, HUTECH actively promotes international experiential learning opportunities that allow students to engage directly with real world community challenges.

Held from March 23 to April 3, Learning Express (LeX) 2026 was one of the University's most impactful international experiential learning initiatives during this period. Jointly organized by HUTECH and Singapore Polytechnic, the 12-day project brought together 60 students from Vietnam and Singapore in interdisciplinary teams to work on community-based projects focused on preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritage. As part of the program, students conducted field research at Minh Phuoc Incense Workshop and the Rong Phuong Nam Water Puppetry Troupe, where they immersed themselves in local communities, observed daily operations, and engaged directly with artisans to better understand existing challenges and opportunities.

Guided by the Design Thinking framework, participants progressed through the stages of observation, empathy building, problem identification, ideation, prototyping, and solution development. Rather than working in a classroom setting alone, students collaborated closely with community stakeholders to create practical and innovative solutions that could contribute to the sustainable development of traditional cultural practices. Their proposals ranged from production improvement tools and branding solutions for traditional craft villages to technological innovations and audience engagement strategies designed to preserve and promote Vietnamese water puppetry to wider domestic and international audiences.

Beyond the development of professional and problem-solving skills, Learning Express encouraged students to cultivate empathy, adaptability, leadership, and cross-cultural teamwork. By working alongside international peers and local communities, participants gained a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage while strengthening their commitment to sustainable development and community engagement. The program reflects HUTECH's educational philosophy of connecting academic learning with real-world impact, empowering students to become globally minded citizens capable of creating meaningful change in society.

Connecting Globally in the Digital Space

Alongside face-to-face exchange activities, HUTECH has also demonstrated a proactive role in connecting the international academic community through virtual exchange programs.

On May 16, the Closing Ceremony of the 2nd ICE – International Cultural Exchange 2026, themed “Sustainable Tourism 2026: Change in Action!”, marked the conclusion of a meaningful journey connecting students from 17 universities in Vietnam,
Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. As the organizing institution, HUTECH created an international platform where students could exchange ideas, share perspectives, and propose solutions for sustainable tourism development.
