Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) has officially achieved QS Stars 4-Star certification in its second evaluation cycle under the updated QS Stars Version 6.0 framework, issued in February 2024. On this occasion, Mr. Jeroen Princeton, Executive Director for Asia-Pacific at QS Quacquarelli Symonds, extended his warm congratulations to the university.
The updated 2024 framework includes nine assessment criteria: Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Good Governance, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Academic Development, Programme Strength, Global Engagement, and Environmental Impact.
In this evaluation cycle, HUTECH received 5 stars in five out of the nine criteria: Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Good Governance, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Notably, the university earned 5 stars for the newly introduced Good Governance criterion in its very first assessment under this category.
QS representative commends HUTECH’s achievement
Mr. Jeroen Princeton highlighted that the QS Stars rating system is a globally recognized framework that rigorously assesses universities based on multiple factors, including teaching quality, research impact, internationalization, and facilities. He noted that attaining an overall QS 4-Star rating is a remarkable milestone, reflecting HUTECH’s dedication to delivering high-quality education, fostering innovative research initiatives, and creating a world-class academic environment for both faculty and students. This achievement, he added, demonstrates that Vietnamese universities are fully capable of competing with top institutions worldwide while also setting a new benchmark for higher education in Vietnam.
As we celebrate this success, it is also important to recognize the challenges ahead. "The pursuit of excellence is a continuous journey, and HUTECH must remain committed to innovation, adaptation, and growth to sustain its competitive edge in the ever-evolving global education landscape," Mr. Princeton remarked.
HUTECH remains committed to continuous innovation, fostering a high-quality educational environment
This recognition is expected to further inspire HUTECH in advancing its sustainable development strategies, striving for higher standards, and making meaningful contributions to both Vietnamese and global education.
In 2022, HUTECH was awarded QS 4-Star certification in its first evaluation. The university excelled in five out of eight criteria at the time, receiving 5 stars in Teaching Quality (135/150), Employability (130/150), Facilities (83/100), Academic Development (138/150), and Holistic Development (35/50). These strengths continue to align with HUTECH’s long-term development strategy.

With the launch of QS Stars Version 6.0, the evaluation framework has expanded from eight to nine criteria, with adjustments and additions to ensure a more comprehensive, objective, and globally relevant assessment of higher education institutions.
This latest update integrates several elements aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), helping universities enhance their global orientation and better equip graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to address societal challenges. The introduction of the Good Governance criterion reflects the importance of strategic development, risk management, faculty and staff satisfaction, quality assurance, and policies related to sustainability and transparency.
Additionally, QS has refined several existing criteria to align with current trends in global higher education. Notable updates include replacing Holistic Development with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; incorporating sustainability-focused metrics into the Environmental Impact category; and rebranding Internationalization as Global Engagement. The term "Global Engagement" has gained prominence in recent years, reflecting the increasing emphasis on diverse and far-reaching international collaborations among universities worldwide.
