2025 was a special year, marking 30 years of establishment and development of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH). Three decades of knowledge building, continuous innovation, and position consolidation have affirmed HUTECH’s standing as a dynamic, creative, and internationally integrated applied university.
As the new year approaches, we look back at 10 outstanding milestones that marked HUTECH’s strong development over the past year.
Opening the series of achievements is a proud milestone on the regional education map. In November 2025, marking its first inclusion in the QS Asia University Rankings, HUTECH was ranked 287th in Asia and 6th in Vietnam, reflecting recognition from the international academic community.
Earlier in the year, the University was awarded a QS 4 Stars Rating for the second evaluation cycle under the QS Stars Version 6.0 standards issued by QS in February 2024. Under this framework, HUTECH received 5 Stars in five out of nine criteria, including the newly introduced Good Governance criterion, for which the University received 5 Stars in its first assessment.

At the same time, other rankings also recorded the University’s standing: HUTECH was ranked 314th worldwide in Engineering and 687th worldwide in Computer Science in the Best Global Universities 2024-2025 rankings published by U.S. News & World Report; and ranked 11th out of 53 leading educational and research institutions in Vietnam, with top positions in the Engineering and Computer Science fields, according to the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2025.

One of the most significant highlights was the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the University, held on April 26, 2025. The event was not only an occasion to look back on the University’s journey but also marked the opening of a new chapter filled with aspirations for the future.
From a challenging beginning, the University has developed into a multidisciplinary and multi-level institution, offering more than 60 undergraduate programmes, 16 master’s programmes, and 3 doctoral programmes, with over 35,000 students currently enrolled and more than 100,000 graduates across diverse fields. Committed to its applied university orientation, the University aligns training with practice, emphasizes hands-on learning, and strengthens industry connections, enabling students to gain practical experience, understand their professions early, and be ready for employment upon graduation.

The 30th Anniversary Celebration of the University marked a significant milestone in the University’s development and long-term growth
On this occasion, the University was honoured to receive the Government Emulation Flag, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee 30th Anniversary Tradition Flag, along with multiple Certificates of Merit awarded by the Prime Minister. In particular, Dr. Kieu Xuan Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Tran Dinh Huy, Vice President, were honoured to receive the Third-Class Labour Medal conferred by the President of Vietnam.
In the overall context of its development, internationalization remains a core pillar. This year, the University continued to actively welcome, engage with, and collaborate with leading universities and educational institutions from Russia, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, Hungary, India, and other countries.
International cooperation activities were further expanded to include academic exchange programmes with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Malaysia), the University of Newcastle (Australia), O.P. Jindal Global University (India), as well as the Erasmus+ programme at WSB Merito University (Poland), among others. These initiatives provided rich professional experiences, opportunities to engage with international standards, and enhanced the professional competencies of both faculty members and students.

Building on its role as a centre for knowledge and technology transfer, and particularly as a co-founding member of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Centre (C4IR) in Ho Chi Minh City, HUTECH continues to host numerous prestigious academic conferences.
A notable example is the 2nd International Conference on "Green Solutions and Emerging Technologies for Sustainability" (GSETS 2025), which brought together nearly 300 domestic and international scientists and experts to present and discuss Advanced Materials and Green Manufacturing Technologies; Sustainable Development Solutions and Technologies; and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development. GSETS 2025 aimed to propose practical solutions, demonstrating efforts to connect scientific research with specific societal challenges and its potential for real-world application.

In addition, a series of other scientific events were organized, including ISVS-14 – the International Seminar on Vernacular, the 2nd International Conference on Modern Mechanics and Applications (ICOMMA 2025), The Southeastern Region Research & Innovation Day and the 7th Annual International Conference of the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, and the Future Frame Celebration Week 2025, among others. These activities further reinforced the University’s academic.

Maintaining its pioneering role in seeking and contributing innovative initiatives, developing research, and applying emerging technologies, in 2025 HUTECH officially launched the international scientific journal METS (Materials and Emerging Technologies for Sustainability), with Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Director of CIRTech Institute, serving as Editor-in-Chief. The journal is in strategic collaboration with World Scientific, a leading global academic publisher, and gathers nearly 20 members, including experts and scientists from countries such as the United States, Australia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, and China. METS is expected to become a high-quality academic forum on materials science and emerging technologies for sustainable development.

At the end of the year, the University was honored to receive the “Smart Education Initiative” Award at the EDTECH Vietnam 2025 Forum on Educational Technology and Digital Transformation for the project “V-Math AI,” an innovative digital platform developed by the CIRTech Institute to support teachers and students in preparing for the national high school mathematics examination. This recognition affirms the University’s orientation toward building a smart educational ecosystem that serves the community.

Alongside this, other activities such as showcasing exemplary research and invention products at the 3rd Ho Chi Minh City Green Growth Showcase 2025 – GRECO 2025, as well as the “Innovative Ideas Competition for Universities in the Southeastern Region,” clearly demonstrated the University’s commitment to linking research with practical application and community responsibility.
In 2025, HUTECH became a focal point for numerous national and international academic and technology competitions. The finals of the Mitsubishi Electric Cup Automation – MECA 2025, hosted by HUTECH, convened 21 distinguished teams from universities nationwide, presenting innovative, practice-oriented projects in the fields of automation, industry, and smart manufacturing, attracting wide attention from both students and enterprises.

In December, HUTECH notably hosted a series of large-scale technology competitions: the 34th Vietnam Student Informatics Olympiad (OLP), the first Vietnam Student Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (OlpAI), Procon Vietnam, and ICPC Asia Ho Chi Minh City 2025. The events spanned five consecutive days, bringing together over 1,000 students, more than 200 coaches from 87 universities, colleges, and academies in Vietnam, 11 international institutions from six countries, and over 250 teams.

This not only demonstrated the University’s organizational and academic capabilities but also promoted internationalization, connecting Vietnamese students with the global technology community.
Sustainable development starts with people. Over the past year, the University has focused on developing its staff, faculty, and administrative personnel through structured recruitment and thorough training programs.
From professional training on skills such as drafting invention descriptions and preparing intellectual property registration dossiers, applying artificial intelligence (AI) in education, transnational education (TNE), to learner support skills and mental health care, these programs have fostered a sense of engagement among the University’s staff, faculty, and administrative personnel within a modern and humane educational environment.

Participation in international projects such as EmpowerTNE and the Gender Equality Partnership Programme funded by the British Council, implementation of Fulbright programs, and workshops with experts from Columbia University and Baylor University (USA) has contributed to enhancing the professional capacity, global mindset, and sustainable development skills of the University’s personnel in the context of a rapidly evolving global education landscape.
HUTECH students have also made remarkable achievements in cultural, artistic, and sports arenas, earning numerous prestigious awards.

For instance, Huynh Thi Tham was the winner of the first season of “TRẺ” Concert; students Tran Duc Thinh and Pham Dao Truong Son won two silver medals at the 2025 National Youth Bodybuilding Championship; VJIT student Nguyen Hong Nhung earned two gold medals, one silver medal, and the first prize in a subsidiary contest at the 2025 World Martial Arts Festival; the HUTECH team brought home 16 medals at the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Martial Arts Festival and 10 medals at the National Student Vovinam Championship. These achievements clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the comprehensive education model that the University has pursued over the years.

A longstanding accomplishment was further extended: the University continued to lead the country in the number of “Five-Good Students” at the central level in 2025, with 86 individual awardees, 19 outstanding collectives, and one “January Star” title. This once again confirms the University’s all-rounded training environment for young generations.

These awards include: First Prize in the Open-Source Software category at OLP’25; the Luong Van Can Talent Award; First Prize in the Emerging Track and two Special Awards at HDBank Hackathon 2025; First Prize at the World Korean Speech Contest 2025; Second Prize at Water Hackathon 2025; Second Prize at the Cultural Tourism Ambassador Competition 2025; Best Rising Star at VNPR Awards 2025 and Silver at ASEAN PR Excellence Awards 2025; one Third Prize and one Consolation Prize at MECA 2025; Third Prize at the National Olympic of Econometrics and Applications 2025; Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography at MEDIA24H 2025; nine awards at the National Mechanics Olympiad; nine Ministry-level Student Research Awards; among many others.
