05/03/2026
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) recently held a working session with representatives from the University of Auckland (UoA, New Zealand) on March 3 to discuss directions for expanding academic cooperation, developing international offerings, and strengthening student connections between the two institutions.

Representing UoA at the meeting were Ms. Natasha Ager, Associate Director for Global Partnerships and Development, along with other members of the delegation
One positive outcome of the current partnership is the international transfer bachelor’s degree in Computer Science under the 3+1 model. In the 2025 to 2026 academic year, seven HUTECH students are enrolled in this pathway. Both sides viewed this as an encouraging sign, reflecting strong student interest in international study pathways and the effectiveness of the collaboration between the two institutions.
Building on this foundation, representatives from HUTECH and UoA discussed plans to expand cooperation into other promising fields such as Business and Management and Engineering and Technology. The development of additional international transfer pathways is expected to offer students more global learning opportunities in the coming years.

UoA representatives also expressed interest in expanding educational activities in Vietnam in the future. Both sides agreed to continue strengthening the initiatives currently underway while exploring additional collaboration models that align with the development strategies of each institution.
Alongside academic initiatives, the two universities also discussed several measures to enhance student support and engagement. These include plans to organize meetings with students and parents during education advising sessions, allowing prospective students to receive information directly from experts and faculty members.
The meeting laid the groundwork for further collaboration between the two institutions
In addition, UoA plans to introduce short online foundation courses for HUTECH students. Through these courses, students will be able to familiarize themselves with academic content early on, experience international learning approaches, and interact directly with UoA faculty members.
The two institutions also discussed the possibility of organizing short study and exchange opportunities at HUTECH for UoA students in the future. These initiatives would contribute to promoting academic exchange and two-way international experiences for students from both universities.
The UoA delegation also met directly with students enrolled in the transfer pathway
The delegation also toured HUTECH facilities at Thu Duc Campus and Hitech Park Campus, where they learned more about the university’s classrooms, laboratories, and student learning environment
As part of the visit, the UoA delegation met directly with students currently enrolled in the transfer pathway. The students shared their academic experiences, their preparations for studying in New Zealand, and raised questions about learning and research environments as well as career opportunities. The discussions with UoA faculty helped students gain a clearer understanding of the academic pathway and the requirements for transferring, preparing them for their journey toward global opportunities.
The University of Auckland, founded in 1883, is the only university in New Zealand ranked among the Top 100 institutions worldwide. It is currently ranked 65th in the QS World University Rankings 2026. The university is widely recognized for its strong research and teaching across many disciplines, particularly in science and technology.
On February 26, 2025, under the witness of the Prime Minister of New Zealand and the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam, HUTECH and the University of Auckland officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking an important milestone in expanding international cooperation, enhancing the quality of higher education, and creating opportunities for students to access advanced global education.
Currently, HUTECH and UoA are implementing the International Bachelor’s Transfer Pathway in Computer Science under the 3+1 model. Students complete the first three years at HUTECH and the final year at UoA, giving them the opportunity to experience an international academic environment and earn a degree from one of the world’s leading universities.
