Held from September 30 to October 2, 2026, at TU Dortmund University, the International UNESCO Chair Conference 2026 explored the theme “International Cooperation in Higher Education and TVET: Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice of SDGs.” The conference brought together approximately 200 leaders, experts, and researchers from 44 countries to discuss how higher education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), research, and international cooperation can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the conference, Dr. Trang presented a paper titled “From Policy to Practice: Embedding Innovation and Cultural Entrepreneurship in Higher Education for Sustainable Development.” Her presentation examined how to bridge the gap between policy priorities and educational practice, drawing on Vietnam’s experience and initiatives currently being implemented at HUTECH.

Drawing on practical experience, Dr. Trang emphasized that sustainable development should be embedded in the core areas of university activities, including curricula, internationalization, applied learning, and quality assurance. Translating these goals into teaching, learning, research, and community engagement enables education to make a more tangible impact on learners and society.
Integrating sustainable development into higher education to deliver practical benefits for learners and society
A key focus of the presentation was cultural entrepreneurship. This concept extends beyond starting a business, emphasizing the ability to identify real-world challenges, understand cultural contexts, connect stakeholders, and develop creative solutions that deliver lasting social value. This approach connects subject knowledge with innovative thinking, community responsibility, and the ability to respond to complex real-world issues.
Alongside the academic sessions, Dr. Trang met with TU Dortmund University’s leadership responsible for internationalization and representatives from other universities to explore opportunities for cooperation in education, research, faculty development, and initiatives for education for sustainable development. These discussions helped expand HUTECH’s international network and laid further groundwork for future academic partnerships.
