With a meaningful message about world peace and outstanding Korean public speaking skills, students from the Faculty of Korean Studies at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) made a strong impression at the 14th K-SPEECH Vietnam Contest, earning Second Prize in the Team Category and Third Prize in the Individual Category.
These achievements in both the team and individual events reflect the students’ language proficiency, global outlook, and confidence, while also opening the door to compete in a prestigious international Korean speech contest in South Korea this October.
In the team category, a group of 12 students delivered a speech titled “Peace Begins with Us.” Drawing from everyday issues such as rising fuel and food prices affected by global conflicts, the team effectively demonstrated that war is not a distant issue but one that directly impacts the lives of individuals around the world.

Through compelling and heartfelt arguments, the students emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of war but something built through understanding, respect for differences, and meaningful dialogue. Their discussion of the Korean Peninsula brought a humanistic perspective to the topic, highlighting mutual respect, coexistence, and peaceful development. Their strong teamwork, accurate pronunciation, and confident presentation helped the Faculty of Korean Studies secure Second Prize in the Team Category.
Building on the success of the team competition, Le Khanh Vy, a fourth-year student majoring in Korean Language, impressed the judges in the individual category with her speech titled “Proposals for Promoting Peace on the Korean Peninsula and Around the World.” Reflecting on the ongoing wars and conflicts in various parts of the world, she raised important questions about individual responsibility in preserving peace and affirmed that peace is created through respect, understanding, and human connection.

It is jointly organized by Yeoju City and the Korean Speech and Oratory Association (한국스피치웅변협회). In addition to the contest itself, participants will take part in a variety of cultural experiences, including a flower offering ceremony in honor of King Sejong, a Hangeul themed hanbok presentation by international speakers, and the official declaration of Yeoju as the “Honorary City of Hangeul” and the “Birthplace of Hangeul.” The event will provide HUTECH students with a valuable opportunity to connect with peers from around the world, demonstrate their Korean language proficiency, and showcase their global competencies on an international academic stage.
