Exploring to empathize: HUTECH and SP students engage with communities through LeX 2025

From March 12 to 14, a total of 30 students from Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and 30 students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) were divided into three teams to explore traditional craft villages and local communities as part of the LeX 2025 project.

At the Dinh Hoa Lacquer Craft Village (Binh Duong), students had the opportunity to witness the meticulous craftsmanship behind traditional lacquerware production. They listened to artisans share their experiences, including the challenges they face and their efforts to preserve this cultural heritage.

At the Hien Nam Pottery Village (Dong Nai), the second team engaged in hands-on activities, from kneading clay to shaping and decorating pottery. This immersive experience allowed them to appreciate the dedication, skill, and centuries-old traditions embedded in pottery craftsmanship.
The third team, at Chap Canh Center (Ho Chi Minh City), directly interacted with members of the community, listening to real-life stories of individuals striving to overcome difficulties and transform their lives

Additionally, students participated in discussions on skill development programs, career orientation, and community education

These experiences helped students refine their communication, observation, and interview skills while fostering a deep sense of empathy. They also marked the first two stages of the Design Thinking process—"Sense & Sensibility" (Observing, Experiencing, and Analyzing) and "Empathy" (Understanding and Connecting).

Students are now moving forward to the next phases: "Ideation" (Generating Solutions) and "Prototype" (Developing Models), aiming to create practical solutions based on the real needs they identified
