Led by Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, “Financial Confidence for Working-Age Persons with Disabilities” is one of five initiatives in Vietnam selected for funding following a review of 49 applications. The project was introduced at the UK Alumni Networking Reception in Hanoi on October 9, highlighting efforts to apply international knowledge and experience to practical community needs.
The initiative to strengthen financial skills among persons with disabilities receives recognition and funding
Aiming to promote financial independence among working-age persons with disabilities, the initiative focuses on equipping participants with money management knowledge and skills tailored to their everyday needs. Planned training activities will emphasize practical budgeting, saving, and personal financial management, helping participants balance income and expenses, make decisions with confidence, and become more independent in their daily lives.

Networking and discussions offer opportunities to build connections and explore new partnerships
A key strength of the project is its focus on applying financial knowledge to everyday situations, with an emphasis on practical skills rather than theory alone. Helping participants manage their money in ways that suit their individual circumstances is expected to reduce barriers to financial management and lay the groundwork for greater independence.
Community-focused ideas are shared and promoted at the event
At the event, Ms. Huong, an alumna of the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, was also invited to join the Alumni Reflections session. Alongside fellow alumni, she discussed how international education had shaped her career development. The conversation focused on applying the knowledge, skills, and perspectives gained through studying abroad to create value for organizations and society.

Her participation provided opportunities to connect with the UK alumni community, organizations, and international partners, laying the groundwork for future cooperation in education and community development. The project’s selection for funding also reflects the proactive international engagement of HUTECH staff, their ability to translate knowledge into practical solutions, and their commitment to social responsibility.
The UK Alumni Networking Reception took place on October 9, 2026, at Lotte Hotel Hanoi. It was jointly organized by the Vietnam–UK Friendship Association (VUFA) and the British Council. Attendees included Mr. Ian Frew, British Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Vuong Thua Phong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam–UK Friendship Association; Ms. Kate Joyce, Regional Director for Asia-Pacific at the British Council; and Mr. James Shipton, Director of the British Council in Vietnam.
Celebrating the contributions and connections of the UK alumni community, the program featured reflections on study experiences and career development, discussions on opportunities for cooperation, and presentations of initiatives selected for funding.
During the event, the British Council announced the results of the Alumni UK Grant 2026–2027 program, which received more than 800 applications across 15 countries, with 62 projects selected for funding. In Vietnam, five projects were selected from 49 applications. Each will receive £5,000 and is scheduled to run between October 2026 and March 2027.
