The award is named after Prof. Academician Nguyen Van Dao, a distinguished mechanic in Vietnam. He was the first President of the Vietnamese Mechanics Association as well as the first Director of the Hanoi National University. After his passing, the Vietnamese Mechanics Association established the Nguyen Van Dao Fund to reward young talented mechanics who have made outstanding contributions to scientific research. Since then, it has become the most prestigious and reputable award in the field of Mechanics until this day.

Initially, Prof. MSc. Nguyen Tien Khiem shared that “The Nguyen Van Dao Award is a highly prestigious accolade in Vietnamese Mechanics. It not only perpetuates the legacy of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dao but also encourages young talents to engage in research and development in Mechanics. This award is dedicated specifically to young mechanical researchers under 40 years old who have achieved outstanding internationally recognized results”.

During the National Mechanics Conference in the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Mechanics Institute, Dr. Phung Van Phuc achieved the Nguyen Van Dao Award 2023-2024 for his work “Small scale analysis of porosity-dependent functionally graded triply periodic minimal surface nanoplates using nonlocal strain gradient theory” as an indication of his relentless endeavors in research and teaching. This is a remarkable milestone for both Dr. Phung Van Phuc in particular and the entire HUTECH team in general.

In addition, Dr. Phung Van Phuc has honorably been ranked in the top 1% of the world's leading scientists in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace for a couple of years as well as top 1% of global peer reviewers. Furthermore, he was listed in the top 100,000 most influential scientists on the planet for five consecutive years. Dr. Phuc has also maintained an impressive stature by being recognized twice as a "Rising Star," an award acknowledging globally outstanding scientific figures and won the "EABE Best Paper Awards" for outstanding articles with significant scientific impact. Alongside these achievements, he has actively participated in community, cultural, and sports activities organized by the university.
