The 29-year challenging yet brilliant journey of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) has passed. Looking back, HUTECH has achieved significant milestones and established its position as one of the leading institutions in the local as well as regional education systems.

In the cheerful atmosphere celebrating HUTECH’s 29th anniversary, let’s reflect on the journey of "steady development - rising integration."

Multi-disciplinary, multi-level training models are highly applicable to the worldwide approach

HUTECH was founded 29 years ago as a private university under decisions No. 235/TTg issued by the Prime Minister of Vietnam on April 26th, 1995. On June 24th, 1995, HUTECH was officially operated and recruited the first undergraduate course for the academic year 1995-96 (according to Decision No. 2128/GD-ĐT of the Ministry of Education & Training).

HUTECH has constantly expanded the scope of applicable training in a multi-disciplinary, multi-level orientation

HUTECH has steadily expanded its area of training over the last 29 years from just three majors in the beginning: Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications, and Foreign Language. Ultimately, HUTECH became a multi-disciplinary training university with 63 official undergraduate programs, 16 master’s graduate programs, and three doctoral programs.

With the focus on highly applicable curriculums, HUTECH is one of the pioneers in adopting University-Industry collaboration strategy, which contributed to filling the gap between supply and demand in human resource training and improving the percentage of employed students after graduation to over 95%.

Modern facilities of HUTECH

The 144/24 Dien Bien Phu campus (currently 475A Dien Bien Phu - Saigon Campus) was officially built by HUTECH in 2000. In celebration of National Teachers' Day in 2010, HUTECH opened the Ung Van Khiem Campus.

On August 8th, 2014, HUTECH began constructing the HUTECH Hi-tech Park Campus.

On February 10th, 2017, HUTECH inaugurated the Thu Duc Campus, formerly the E3 building of the High-Quality Human Resources Training Center. Thu Duc Campus was formally opened on the 28th anniversary of the HUTECH establishment (April 26th, 2023).

Modern Testing and Experimentation facilities to suit the learning and research demands of lecturers and students

HUTECH provides Testing and Experimentation systems for each group of majors, such as automobile practice centers, hotel-restaurant practice centers, studios, labs, and other convenient study and sports facilities, allowing students to develop comprehensively.

HUTECH focuses on attracting well-qualified researchers, professionals, and scholars from leading developed nations by investing in advanced laboratories and offering a professional working environment.

HUTECH is identified as a “dynamic university”

Aiming at the fulfillment of learners’ comprehensive development, HUTECH not only provides academic knowledge but also offers students a dynamic environment for extracurricular activities. Specifically, there are around 60 student clubs. In addition, art, sports events and contests; social activity; and international exchange are organized regularly.

Extracurricular activities in various fields, enhancing students' overall growth

Scientific research and academic playgrounds are persistently invested, creating an environment for students to materialize their knowledge and creativity to reality. From this foundation, talented students can deal with the upcoming challenges ahead. Becoming a “Dynamic University” is the orientation of HUTECH.

Establishing foundation and ongoing improvement

On August 30th, 2007, HUTECH became the first university to apply ISO 9001:2000 for the operation of the university. Until now, HUTECH successfully transferred into the ISO 9001:2015 system.

In recognition of excellent services, the President awarded HUTECH the Third Class Labor Medal in 2009, 2010, and 2013. The President presented HUTECH with the Second Class Labor Medal on its 20th anniversary in 2015. On November 15th, 2020, HUTECH was bestowed with the First Class Labor Medal.

HUTECH continuously received many Certificates of Merit from the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee

In 2015-2016, HUTECH was the top university in terms of the number of students earning the title of "Student with 5 good merits" at the Central level, and this position has been consistently maintained throughout the years.

On December 16th, 2017, HUTECH was honored to receive a Ministerial Certificate due to its excellent scientific research activities. HUTECH students shined at the Ministerial Student Research Award, Euréka Research Award , HUTECH Startup Wings, Luong Van Can Talent Award, and other reputable contests.

HUTECH achieved a significant milestone on November 17th, 2018 when it became the first university in the country to meet accreditation by the Ministry of Education and Training. Until now, the school has received accreditation for 24 undergraduate majors according to the Ministry of Education and Training requirements, 06 undergraduate majors according to AUN-QA criteria, and 04 master-level majors.

In 2022, HUTECH is proud to acquire QS 4-Star International Certification at the initial review

In the same year, HUTECH ranked 3rd in Vietnam in terms of scientific index and ranked 1st in training quality among non-public universities. Moreover, HUTECH acquired QS 4-Star International Certification at the first assessment.

In 2023, HUTECH ranked 10th among 18 universities with the greatest academic accomplishments in Vietnam according to the URAP 2023 world rankings. In 2024, HUTECH continually ranked 8th among 23 universities on the URAP rankings and ranked 3rd among 45 universities, research institutions with the best scientific research competence in Vietnam on the SCImago ranking.
