Continuing to affirm the role of scientific research in its new development strategy, on September 16, the Department of Science and Technology at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) held the Conference on Science and Technology Review 2020-2025 and Plans for 2025-2030.
At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Viet, Head of the Department of Science and Technology, presented the review report supported by results and data. The report covered key areas such as the completion of regulations for science and technology activities; the quality of highly qualified human resources; statistics on scientific publications by category (Q-ranked), ISI-indexed articles, and publications recognized by the State Council for Professorship at various levels; intellectual property achievements; the number of research projects; student research outcomes; statistics on conferences and seminars during 2020–2025; and activities of the METS Journal (Materials and Emerging Technologies for Sustainability).

Based on these results, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Viet also announced plans and strategic targets for 2025–2030. Highlights include finalizing regulations on science, technology, and innovation; investing in research facilities; participating in university rankings; increasing Scopus-indexed publications; expanding ministry- and province-level projects; improving the quality of student research; and strengthening the organization of international conferences and seminars.

In addition, he emphasized five strategic directions, with a particular focus on developing research and innovation capacity for students. This aims to strongly promote research activities, reinforcing HUTECH’s academic standing and research quality both domestically and internationally.
The discussion session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh - Vice President, Dr. Bui Van The Vinh - Vice President, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Viet, was lively and productive. Faculty and researchers contributed many practical ideas, focusing on issues such as mechanisms and policies for researchers, investment in and upgrading of research facilities, implementation of intellectual property activities, and nurturing young researchers.

Highlighting the role of research, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Lam, Vice Chairman of the University Board of Directors, stated that HUTECH’s presence in academic rankings marks an important step in research development. He also expressed hope that in the next five years, all units will continue to strengthen scientific research and grow across all fields, gradually improving every element of the research ecosystem.
