HUTECH and Japanese partners organize Vietnam-Japan Hydrogen Workshop 2025 to explore hydrogen’s role in healthcare and wellness

On October 17, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) hosted the Vietnam-Japan Hydrogen Workshop 2025 with the theme “Hydrogen Applications in Healthcare with Japanese Technology and Vietnamese Partners.” The event aimed to exchange academic knowledge, introduce new technologies, and promote cooperation in the field of hydrogen for medical and healthcare applications.
The workshop was jointly organized by HUTECH, the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC), and Suiso Japan Corporation
In his opening remarks, Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, President of VAHC, stated that the workshop not only carried scientific significance but also represented an important step toward a green economy and sustainable development.

Mr. Yoichiro Aoyagi, Member of the Japanese House of Representatives and Vice President of the Japan and Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance, sent his greetings and expressed his desire to strengthen Vietnam and Japan cooperation in hydrogen technology and public health.

At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Viet, Head of the Department of Science and Technology at HUTECH, delivered a presentation titled “HUTECH International Cooperation towards Innovation and New Technology.” He introduced the university’s research capacity, international partnerships, and development direction in new technologies, particularly in innovation, clean energy, and biotechnology. He also shared that the university is focusing on projects related to water electrolysis, green hydrogen production, and hydrogen applications in industry and medicine, in line with the National Hydrogen Energy Strategy to 2050.
Through the workshop, the university aimed to expand collaboration with research institutes, enterprises, and international universities to develop a green hydrogen ecosystem and promote hydrogen technology applications in healthcare, energy, and environmental fields in Vietnam.

In the special report session, Dr. Nguyen Huu Luong, Senior Hydrogen Expert at the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI), presented “Overview on Emissions and Air Pollution in Vietnam.” His presentation provided a comprehensive academic analysis of emissions and air pollution in Vietnam based on scientific data and international research. The report highlighted the connections between air pollution, climate change, and public health, and emphasized the role of hydrogen, renewable energy, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies in emission reduction strategies consistent with Vietnam’s net-zero target by 2050.
Dr. Nguyen Huu Luong presented “Overview on Emissions and Air Pollution in Vietnam”
Ms. Ngo Huynh Trang, Chairwoman of Ca Mau Eco, introduced the Ca Mau Eco Ecotourism Model, which follows a green and low-emission development orientation. The model applies hydrogen technology in spa therapy, hydrogen water, and natural health care programs. Her presentation outlined the goal of establishing Vietnam’s first Hydrogen Wellness model to promote a green lifestyle, nature conservation, and sustainable healthcare.
Mr. Andy Lei, Vice President of VAHC, delivered the presentation “Benefits of Hydrogen-Rich Water and Hydrogen Inhaling for Human Health,” which summarized medical evidence on the biological effects of molecular hydrogen (H₂) in neutralizing free radicals, reducing oxidative stress, regulating immunity, and supporting the treatment of chronic diseases. He also predicted that the hydrogen medicine market could reach 1.5 billion USD by 2030, opening opportunities for the development of smart medical devices and hydrogen-based combination therapies.

Ms. Ho Thi Bich Phuong, Assistant to the General Director and Head of Business Coordination at UNP Healthcare Vietnam, presented “Experience in Distributing IZUMIO Hydrogen-Rich Water in Vietnam and How Japanese HRW Improves Your Health.” She shared practical experience in introducing IZUMIO hydrogen-rich water technology in Vietnam and cited Japanese medical research confirming the effectiveness of hydrogen in neutralizing free radicals, improving metabolism, stabilizing blood sugar, and strengthening cellular immunity. Her report highlighted hydrogen as a safe, green, and promising therapeutic factor in next-generation medicine.
Ms. Ho Thi Bich Phuong presented “Experience in Distributing IZUMIO Hydrogen-Rich Water in Vietnam and How Japanese HRW Improves Your Health”
Concluding the special report session, Mr. Otuki Taisei, Executive Director and Assistant to the President of Suiso Japan Corporation, presented “Hydrogen-Based Healthcare Technology from Japan.” He introduced Japan’s hydrogen-based medical technology and product systems and emphasized the biological role of hydrogen as a fundamental element sustaining life, supported by numerous international studies demonstrating its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-regulating effects.
He also introduced the Suilive SS 300 Plus and SS 600 Plus product lines, which use advanced water electrolysis technology to produce 99 percent pure hydrogen gas, certified by the Aichi Center for Industrial Science and Technology in Japan. These products have been exported to 19 countries and are widely used in hydrogen inhalation therapy, beauty care spas, and health recovery applications.

As part of the event, HUTECH and Suiso Japan Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step forward in the university’s internationalization of research and technology transfer activities. Both sides committed to jointly implementing pilot projects for medical and healthcare applications, developing advanced technology laboratories, and training specialized human resources.
