On October 12, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) met with the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), Canada, to explore collaboration in exchange scholarships, joint programmes, and research, expanding international study options for students.
UFV was represented at the meeting by Mr. David McGuire, Associate Vice President, International
During the meeting, UFV discussed the possibility of offering scholarships for HUTECH students to study in Canada for one or two semesters. The discussions also covered other forms of financial support, drawing on the SEED scholarship model currently implemented with the University of Manitoba. This was identified as a promising area of collaboration to broaden students’ access to international learning experiences.
The two universities also discussed transnational education (TNE) pathways, including a 2+2 programme in Business Administration and a 3+1 programme in Information Technology. HUTECH plans to support students in preparing their applications.

At the postgraduate level, UFV introduced its master’s programmes in Science and Computer Science, with two options: a 20-month thesis pathway or a 16-month project pathway. These would provide additional choices for students seeking to deepen their expertise.
HUTECH and UFV explore further academic collaboration with a focus on sustainable development
HUTECH also proposed inviting UFV professors to contribute to the HUTECH Online Expert Talk Series, with discussions on sustainable development and university rankings. Mr. David McGuire introduced the AASHE STARS sustainability rating system, which UFV is currently using, opening up further opportunities to share experience in advancing sustainability in higher education.
Following the meeting, HUTECH and UFV will continue discussions to agree on suitable areas of collaboration and work towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), laying the foundation for practical collaborative activities.
