On October 14, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) held a ceremony to present scholarships from the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, encouraging students in the Faculty of Chinese Studies to pursue their academic goals.
The event was jointly organised by the Center for Corporate Relations and the Faculty of Chinese Studies. Alongside the scholarship presentation, students received practical guidance on making a positive impression on employers and explored recruitment requirements and career opportunities in the corporate world.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Cao Cuong, Vice President of HUTECH, thanked the Chinese Consulate General for its continued support for students over the years. He emphasised: “Learning Chinese should go hand in hand with understanding the culture, working styles, and professional conduct expected in the workplace. This combination will help you become more competitive and broaden your future career opportunities.”

Following the ceremony, students attended a workshop titled “Understanding Chinese Culture to Adapt to the Corporate Environment,” led by Ms. Pham Thi Phuoc Hoa, Founder of LEARNX. She examined employer demand for Chinese-speaking professionals and highlighted job opportunities in industrial parks and locations beyond major cities, encouraging students to seek suitable workplaces where they can gain experience and develop their professional skills.

Offering further career guidance, the speaker introduced the “Chinese + 1” model, encouraging students to combine their language skills with expertise in fields such as business, marketing, logistics, procurement, manufacturing, and human resource management. She also presented the “4T + 2C” framework, named after the Vietnamese initials for language proficiency, vocational skills, thinking, attitude, technology, and people. This helped students identify the competencies they need to develop and take practical steps to become more competitive as employers’ expectations continue to evolve.
Students actively discuss job application skills and career opportunities with the speaker
Inviting students to take an employer’s perspective, the mini-game “Who Would You Hire?” challenged them to choose among three candidates with different HSK proficiency levels, academic results, and work experience. The speaker also explained how to create a CV that highlights language proficiency, professional expertise, skills, and achievements, while identifying common mistakes in job applications and interviews.
Practical advice helps students take an active role in preparing for their careers
These practical insights helped students make more informed career decisions, combine their Chinese language skills with specialist knowledge, and actively pursue internships and develop essential skills while still at university.
