In order to provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience in the fields of stage and film, and to confidently pursue their passions, on May 22, the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a talkshow entitled: "Exploring Multidimensional Perspectives and Untold Stories Behind the Director’s Lens".
The program was honored by the presence of: Dr. Huynh Ngoc Anh – Vice President of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quyet Thang – Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoa – Vice Dean; Mr. Nguyen Huu Khanh – Representative of the Institute of Music & Arts.
The event welcomed the participation of HUTECH leadership and academic representatives
from multiple Faculties and Institutes across the University.
Joining the program as guest speakers were: Director Tran Hoa Yen – Representative of VTV9, the National Television Channel under Vietnam Television (VTV); Director Cas Tuan Anh – CEO of Captains Town Academy.
Dr. Huynh Ngoc Anh presented flowers and a certificate of appreciation to the two guest speakers
On behalf of the University’s Board of Presidents, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Anh expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the staff, lecturers, and students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in their recent teaching and learning activities. He also emphasized that the program was a meaningful initiative, combining theory with real-world practice, and offering valuable support for students’ career development. Dr. Huynh Ngoc Anh expressed his hope that students would take full advantage of the opportunity to learn and gain practical insights from the two guest speakers.
Dr. Huynh Ngoc Anh highlights the talkshow’s value in bridging theory and real-world experience for students
Throughout the talkshow, students had the opportunity to listen to many engaging stories shared by the guest speakers — from how they first entered the industry, to their determination to pursue their passion and overcome countless challenges in order to make their mark in the field.
Unlike Director Hòa Yên, who inherited his career from a family tradition, Director Tuấn Anh began his journey in the industry as an actor, often taking on action roles. Through his experiences, he developed a multidimensional perspective and a deep sensitivity to the art of storytelling, particularly in weaving real-life elements into cinematic narratives. From there, he set a clear goal—not only to pursue his own dreams, but also to contribute to the growth and development of Vietnamese cinema.
Inspiring behind-the-scenes stories from the directing world shared with HUTECH students
With over a decade of experience in the field, the guest speakers provided students with an overview of the directing profession, as well as common challenges faced in the industry, offering practical insights that students could take away and apply. In the field of television, speaking from her perspective as a female director, Director Hoa Yen shared: “Adaptability, skillful problem-solving, empathy, and active listening are essential in any profession—especially in directing. Only by balancing these elements can we effectively collaborate with colleagues and truly connect with the audience, delivering the best-quality final product”.
Sharing the same perspective, Director Tuan Anh added:
“In the field of action films, beyond having courage and a burning passion, it’s essential to have professional knowledge of martial arts to ensure the visuals and overall quality of the film stay true to the theme”.
Students explored the behind-the-scenes of stage and film production through insightful Q&A with the speakers
In addition to listening to insights from the guest speakers, students actively engaged in direct Q&A sessions, raising questions and discussing key elements in the production process—such as cinematic effects, filming and editing techniques (including scene breakdowns, camera angles, sound design, and post-production), stage setup, and distribution strategies. All questions were thoroughly addressed by the two speakers, helping students gain a comprehensive understanding of the meticulous and complex process behind the creation of a complete film or television production.
Talkshow offered valuable perspectives on the realities of a director’s career
Through the talkshow “Exploring Multidimensional Perspectives and Untold Stories Behind the Director’s Lens”, with the participation of experienced directors as guest speakers, it is believed that students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at HUTECH have gained valuable professional insights that will help shape their future career paths.
