HUTECH has two scientists appointed to the NAFOSTED Scientific Council for Basic Research

The National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) has recently announced 11 Scientific Councils for Basic Research in Natural Sciences and Engineering, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) is honored to have two scientists appointed to the Scientific Council for Basic Research in Natural Sciences and Engineering for the 2025–2027 term.

Specifically, Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh - Vice President of HUTECH - has been appointed Chair of the Scientific Council in Engineering Mechanics. At present, Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh oversees science and technology affairs as well as international programs, including joint international education and the Vietnam-Japan program at HUTECH. Alongside his administrative roles, he remains actively engaged in scientific research, particularly in the field of solid mechanics, with numerous studies published in reputable domestic and international journals. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh supervises many PhD candidates, master's students, and undergraduates on research projects that have yielded significant results and contributed positively to the development of engineering mechanics.

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Dinh Bay - Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology - is a member of the Scientific Council in Information and Computer Science. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Dinh Bay is one of HUTECH’s distinguished scientists, particularly in computer science. Besides his leadership and research activities, he is also involved in teaching and supervising graduate and postgraduate students, contributing to theses and dissertations with noteworthy achievements. In recent years, he has also served on the judging panel for the Sao Khue Awards - the most prestigious awards in Vietnam’s software and IT services industry.

The National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) is an organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, established to promote scientific research and technological development. The foundation funds research projects in various fields, including natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and engineering, with a rigorous evaluation process conducted by expert councils. NAFOSTED plays a key role in improving research quality, fostering the practical application of research outcomes, creating opportunities for international collaboration, and enhancing national scientific capacity. Through these efforts, the foundation contributes to sustainable socio-economic development.
 
The Scientific Council serves to advise NAFOSTED on basic research directions funded by the foundation, evaluate and select research proposals, assess the outcomes of funded projects, and address other matters related to the foundation’s operations.
