HUTECH connects with Guangdong Open University to expand collaboration in open education and lifelong learning

Open education, online learning, and lifelong learning were among the key topics discussed during a meeting between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) and Guangdong Open University (China) on June 24. These areas also present promising opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and the application of technology to teaching and learning.
As digital transformation continues to reshape education around the world, open education has become an increasingly important focus for higher education institutions. With this vision in mind, HUTECH aims to strengthen its partnership with Guangdong Open University by sharing expertise in distance learning, e-learning, and the development of lifelong learning ecosystems.

The two universities introduced their histories, strategic directions, and key strengths in education and research. Representatives from Guangdong Open University spoke highly of HUTECH's achievements in education, scientific research, and international collaboration. They also recognized the University's large student population, modern facilities, and strong commitment to internationalization.
Building on their shared vision, both universities explored several areas of potential collaboration for the coming years. Discussions covered faculty and student exchange, joint research initiatives, online academic engagement, and the sharing of best practices in applying technology to teaching and educational management.

Guangdong Open University is a public university under the Guangdong Provincial Government of China. Originally established in 1978 as Guangdong Radio and Television University, it has become a pioneer in open education and lifelong learning. It is also the largest open university within China's provincial open university system.
The University currently serves more than 512,000 students across a wide range of educational pathways through a model that integrates higher education, vocational education, and continuing education. Guangdong Open University has made significant investments in digital technologies to enhance teaching, academic administration, and the development of an extensive education network throughout Guangdong Province.
Its academic offerings range from undergraduate education to vocational training, with several disciplines recognized as provincial key programs, including computer science, network technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), e-commerce, and elderly care. In addition to its educational achievements, the University has established a strong reputation through numerous research projects, provincial research platforms, patents, and software copyrights.
Notably, Guangdong Open University was the first institution to establish the Guangdong Lifelong Education Credit Bank and the Guangdong Provincial Lifelong Education Qualifications Framework. These initiatives have played an important role in promoting the recognition, accumulation, and transfer of learning outcomes across different levels of education and forms of learning.
