HUTECH connects with University College Cork (UCC), expanding research and education opportunities in Ireland

On August 28, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) held a meeting with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoang, Senior Lecturer and Director of the MSc in Computing Science, School of Computer Science and Information Technology, University College Cork, National University of Ireland, Cork, Ireland.

One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the advancement of artificial intelligence. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoang shared insights into Agentic AI 2.0 and the emerging trend of AI systems capable of handling increasingly complex tasks with greater levels of autonomy.
In the healthcare field, the combination of UCC’s technological expertise and HUTECH’s educational ecosystem presents significant potential for collaboration. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoang introduced the CoEDU project and shared his experience working with healthcare institutions in Ireland to apply AI in the training of medical professionals. These experiences provide a foundation for the two institutions to explore long-term collaboration in healthcare AI, medical education, and simulation-based training.

One area explored in depth was the potential development of a Simulation Center at HUTECH, integrating AI and simulation technologies to support education, practical training, and professional competency development. To gain further insights into suitable models, the UCC representative suggested that HUTECH could organize an academic delegation to Ireland in the future to visit and learn directly from models that integrate AI and simulation into medical education.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of offering Summer Schools and short-term courses in AI, computer science, and English with academic credit recognition. Expert exchange was also identified as a potential area of collaboration. HUTECH proposed inviting Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoang to participate in talk shows, seminars, and academic sharing sessions for faculty members and students, with a focus on AI, data science, and emerging technology trends.
In parallel, the two sides discussed opportunities for faculty exchange and extended academic research visits through sabbatical programs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoang expressed interest in undertaking a period of academic research at HUTECH, enabling faculty members from both institutions to deepen their engagement through teaching, research, supervision, and academic networking.

At the postgraduate level, the two sides expressed interest in PhD study opportunities in Ireland. The UCC representative shared information about PhD scholarship programs, including approximately 80 scholarships expected to be available with government funding under selected programs. Building on this opportunity, HUTECH and the UCC representative discussed ways to introduce faculty members, researchers, and prospective candidates to relevant programs and support them in identifying and applying for opportunities aligned with their academic interests.
Given HUTECH’s strengths in information technology and engineering, the two sides proposed connecting their academic experts with a view to establishing joint research groups in both fundamental and applied research. AI, technology, and AI applications in healthcare were identified as priority areas. The two institutions could also collaborate on developing proposals to seek funding for international research projects.

Potential articulation programs and international joint education programs, particularly in health-related disciplines and other areas aligned with the strengths of both institutions, were also discussed. Building on the directions identified during the meeting, the two sides aim to further develop suitable areas of collaboration and work toward the signing of an MoU.
