Understanding the University as an Interconnected Whole
From 14 to 25 September, Dr. Bui Phan Anh Thu participated in the Faculty Development Programme for Faculties from ASEAN & Global South at IIT Gandhinagar alongside lecturers and higher education administrators from ASEAN and Global South countries.
Through thematic sessions, discussions, and group work with professors and experts, Dr. Bùi Phan Anh Thư explored core issues including institutional development strategies, the role of faculty in a changing educational context, innovation in teaching methods, curriculum design, academic staff development, research supervision, internationalization, and student affairs.
The program provides opportunities to discuss university governance, teaching innovation, research, and internationalization with international experts
The program also covered the R&D ecosystem, entrepreneurship, technology transfer, initiative development, and university–industry collaboration. Within this framework, research is closely connected with academic infrastructure, staff capabilities, and governance mechanisms, with the aim of translating knowledge into practical value for communities, businesses, and society.
Site visits introduce participants to models of research organization, industry engagement, and support for initiatives at IIT Gandhinagar
Visits to IIT Gandhinagar’s Research Park, laboratories, and research facilities added further practical depth. Here, participants could directly observe how the institute organizes its scientific infrastructure, supports initiatives, connects with industry, and creates an environment for student development. These firsthand experiences helped illustrate the topics discussed in the thematic sessions through concrete operational models.
Expanding Opportunities for Cooperation with IIT Gandhinagar
Alongside professional capacity development, the program also opened up opportunities to connect HUTECH and IIT Gandhinagar. During a session on potential directions for cooperation, Prof. Somnath Mitra, representing the program’s organizing and coordination team, invited Dr. Bùi Phan Anh Thư to introduce HUTECH and share areas in which the two institutions could collaborate.

Her presentation focused on HUTECH’s multidisciplinary development direction, its strengths in engineering and technology, and its strategy to advance internationalization and interdisciplinary cooperation. Based on the capabilities and needs of both institutions, several potential areas of collaboration were identified, including collaboration among faculty members and research groups, joint research projects and scholarly publications, seminars, guest lectures, faculty exchanges, student learning and experiential programs, workshops, and international conferences.
Learning opportunities also extended to visits to Sabarmati Ashram, GIFT City, Rani ki Vav, and the Sun Temple at Modhera. These destinations offered further perspectives on India’s history, culture, planning, technology, and development, while also encouraging interaction among lecturers and educational administrators from different countries.
The program broadens cultural experiences and strengthens HUTECH’s academic network in India and the ASEAN–Global South community
After 12 days of learning and working at IIT Gandhinagar, the program delivered two key benefits: additional practical experience in governance, research, educational innovation, and student development; and an expanded academic network for HUTECH in India and the ASEAN–Global South community. The connections established during this journey lay the groundwork for future international cooperation in research, education, and academic exchange.
